Corgies, you forgot Corgies. The most important addition to perfect cosplay. Anyways, I guess I have every single tool you mentioned. Still, I will continue to make cosplays for my BJDs. They are always available, always patient, and don't change their body shapes. And no dressform needed, as you can directly work on their resin bodies. Excellent video!

Get! a! clothing! iron! and use it liberally! Even a store-bought costume will look much better if it doesn't have creases from the bag it came in, and if you sew something, opening and pressing seams as you go means you won't get creases where two seams meet.

Well, I only own a hot glue gun and some basic safety equipment, but I still managed to pull off an Overwatch Genji cosplay. It just took forever and a day to sand. Colors are basic so no need for an air brush, spray paint works just fine. So don't give up if you don't own any of this!

Same! I needed a heat gun and a soldering iron for mine though, 'cause I used some lights, but because of how slim the suit is, I didn't even need thick foam, just the super thin cheap stuff from the stationer's.
@pixel_vengeur3916 жыл бұрын
Emile David de Kadt Since I used thick foam for mine (5mm), I needed a way of heating up the foam. I used a halogen lamp. They transform only ~5% of the current they receive in light, the rest is just plain heat. And I gets really toasty. I managed to heatform and heatseal all the foam I had with it. It's really DIY, but the cheapest heatgun I could find locally was 50€+ so...
@deKahedron6 жыл бұрын
Woah, a halogen lamp... I'd never thought of using one of those. I tip my hat to you sir.

You listed pretty much every tool i've got lol. Except! recently i found something great: a Hot Wire Foam Cutter. (by woodland scenics). it is SO easy to make smooth cuts into XPS (insulation) foam boards. the company even puts out youtube tutorials to get started. Its' original purpose is for model building out of different styrofoams so it's perfect for cosplay! I highly recommend this tool to everyone, but be careful, the wire heats up fast and can really hurt if your skin comes in contact with it. All my crafty friends that have tried using it are baffled by how quick and clean the cuts can be made. however, i have NOT tried it on EVA or upholstery foam yet so i can't say how effective the tool works on them~

I have a brother that I got for $10 usd at a garage sale when I was a kid. It is a very basic machine but it has put up with everything I've thrown at it for around 10 years now. My mom has given me a more upgraded model in the last few years and the old one is still my preferred machine for basic sewing. Also, if you really get into sewing with cosplay I would recommend getting a serger! They are a life saver! A serger is a sewing machine that uses 3- 5 threads to finish off the edge of the fabric so it doesn't fray and I can't tell you how much it helps with certain fabrics.

I am making a Steampunk Deathstroke. Great instructional video for beginner cosplayers. I found my heat gun at my local hardware store: L and M fleet supply. To any new cosplayers, I recommend to start at your local hardware, retail store first. For my Deathstroke's swords, I used yard sticks I bought at Ace hardware in Moose Lake when I was visiting there. For my hot glue gun, I buy sticks from Walmart and its where I get most of my stuff of nylon fibers, elastic bands, and buckles. I still say that this video is great. Keep up the great work.
