Great performance!!! I find your videos and students to be so beautiful in that they bring different cultures together effortlessly and admirably. But the performances could be even better if the younger students were in a deeper araimandi while dancing. Stressing a deeper araimandi really makes a difference and really improves the visual aspects of a Bharatanatyam performance.

Thank you so much, Iman Allen, for your thoughtful and kind appreciation and feedback. Your timing is amazing. Just yesterday, I was watching this very video with the two students who performed it with me. The one in the blue, Vinodini, kept commenting, "my araimandi is terrible!" :o) I do emphasize a deeper araimandi to my students in my classes. I'm constantly, saying "sit more!" "deeper!" "lower!" ...eventually after lots of practice and muscle strengthening/training, I hope that they all will perfect the proper form of Bharatanatyam. For me also, it is always a work in progress. Thank you again!

In continuation with the before comment: In south India during the chola dynasty the society was divided into two sects 1.shivites 2.vaishnavites the below question was the part of an argument between the two sects. and the shivites also supported their question with the fact that during the process of churning the milky ocean, lord shiva had to drink the poison that came out of the ocean. forgetting the fact that nothing can harm lord shiva, parvathi devi put her hand on Shiva's neck to stop the poison from entering inside. Shiva could've laughed it off but he didn't because he doesn't want to belittle his wife. so they argued that Shiva's good at everything that Vishnu's good at and also he is a good husband contrary to vishnu

It is very interesting to hear about the two different sects and the Shivites' reason for preferring Shiva to Vishnu. I even heard that there are some people in the south who worship Ravana instead of Rama.

Hello mam I want to know your perspective on this issue: 1. Ram was hailed as god even though he made his wife enter fire and left her in forest disregarding the fact that she is pregnant. 2. Ravana on the other hand abducted sita out of love towards his sister and also lust towards sita tough. but he did not even touch sita but he was hailed as evil. Rama committed two mistakes 1.making his own wife enter fire to test her fidelity(it can be argued that he did it to prove the purity of sita devi to the world but what about the self respect of mother Sita) 2.He sent Sita devi to forests even after knowing that she is pregnant.that is cruel Ravana committed only 1 mistake: abducting sita and on the other hand he's Brahmin, also a staunch devotee of lord shiva. So technically Rama has to be punished more than Ravana. but it didn't happen. why? An answer was given in a book but I want to know what you were taught about this?

To compare Rama with Ravana is faulty since Ravana is a Jiva Tattva and Rama is a Vishnu Tattva. Their activities aren’t in the same category. Rama’s actions are His lila and are transcendentally perfect since He is never touched by the human frailties that affect the ordinary jivas. Whereas, Ravana is functioning from selfish false ego, or ahankara. Their very names indicate the vast difference between them. Ravana is the one who makes the world scream and Rama gives the world pleasure. All of Rama’s activities are for the benefit of the world and for the pleasure of His beloved devotees. Whereas Ravana’s activities are for his own personal gratification since he is choosing to compete with the Almighty, instead of serve the Almighty. Even if we could compare Rama with Ravana, it is folly to say that Ravana’s kidnapping and imprisoning another man’s wife was a minor sin. Sita Devi certainly did not think his sin was minor, whereas she understood and respected Rama’s decisions since she knew the envious nature of the jivas in this world and she understood that a king must be beyond criticism. From the external point of view, this was the reason for the test by fire, and the abandonment of Sita. Rama had descended to Earth to set the example of a perfect king. A perfect king and queen must be exemplary both by their actions and their appearances. Truly, it was a huge and painful sacrifice for Rama. But that was the example that He was setting. That a king and queen must sacrifice their own happiness to set an example for their people. And yet, Rama never doubted Sita which was evident in that He stayed faithful and never remarried even though He was pressured to do so. Internally, these excruciatingly painful lilas awaken intense feelings in the devotees who can’t help but long for Rama and Sita to reunite and to live happily together. Separation increases love and longing. These two lilas of Rama have caused me a lot of pain and bewilderment. It was only after much prayer that I understood the internal reason. These lilas cause the heart to ache, and when the heart aches, attachment increases. Put simply, that is the goal for us wayward and wandering jivas. We are meant to ache with love and longing for the Divine Couple’s eternal union.

That's a great answer. actually the question itself is wrong. Ravana was born on earth only 2 times whereas vishnu already took birth 9 times so if we have to compare we have to consider everything vishnu did in his 9 lives with everything that Ravana did. for example the same vishnu who sent his pregnant wife to forests in his previous Avatar got Bhishma killed in kurukshetra just for remaining silent when Draupadi was being abused by Kauravas. His every life set's an example. I think the book gave more clear answer but I can't remember.
