Thanks to providing military equipment to Ukraine, the United States of America has been able to equip its own army with updated technology, informs The Telegraph.
As the source writes, the Pentagon is essentially transferring its old weapons to Ukraine, while receiving funds from the budget to purchase next-generation armaments.
"Quite literally, the roughly $140 billion the United States is spending on Ukraine through the war’s first three years is actually funding a major modernization drive for the US military," the source states.
In particular, the US has provided Ukraine with M-2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles from the 1990s. In exchange, new BMPs were purchased from the manufacturer. Moreover, as confirmed by the Pentagon, the US army receives full replacement: for every old Bradley donated to Ukraine, the American troops receive one new Bradley with all modern features.
It's interesting that the new vehicles received by the United States were manufactured taking into account their performance in the fields of Zaporizhzhia and Donbas. One of the main innovations is the Iron Fist active protection system, which intercepts missiles and drones in flight.
This system has been previously used in Israel, but its use in the war in Ukraine, where drones have become dominant on the battlefield, prompted the United States to increase investments in implementing active protection systems on armored vehicles.
In April, the United States announced one of the largest aid packages to Ukraine worth $60 billion.
A spokesperson for the US State Department Matthew Miller stated that the United States will announce the delivery of new arms packages to Ukraine in the coming weeks.

What people dont get is that by providing Ukraine with their old equipment they dont have to spend money on demilitarization programs for taking old weapons out of service Instead , they send it to Ukraine and that money for demilitarization program goes to newer weapons and program its a win win

if you have a look on history, war was a mean to get out from economy downspiral for many leaders..... I think US will become a proper military state soon once production will ramp up of new stuff so the big names LM, P, etc will have so much economical power literally they will carry the US economy soon.... but the problem is.... nowadays what will happen if you are in existential threat ( Russia is in that), because the plan was always to control Russia, but if control is not possible it has to be broken apart for smaller states ( divide and conquer ) so the west and east will cannibalize parts of it.... Don't forget at the 50s 60s there was a Russo-China war, where the Russian were planning a nuclear pre-emptive strike on the Chinese as start of a 10.... read about the Russo-Chinese war because Russia took a big chunk from China and there is not only Taiwan that Xi Jin Ping wants back....

This is what a lot of people don't realize. You don't think the US is learning on whats going on with Ukraine? How the logistics are going to work getting an Army to the field, to see what works what doesn't work. The Ukrainins are depleting our surplus hardware, we are getting funds to replenish with newer and upgraded models.

@h-go4fk A GMLRS rocket costs 178k dollars. The U.S. has about 30,000 of them that are end of life. That means use them or lose them Lose them means they must be methodically disassembled and disposed of and costs between $75k to $100k dollars each. Or you can ship them to Ukraine to use and costs a couple $1000 each to dispose of. What do you choose. The U.S. also has 20 to 30 thousand cluster munitions rockets. They are beyond end of life. The U.S. has already paid about $75k dollars each to destroy around 25k of them. Of the 20k to 30k remaining, do you choose to pay $75k each to dispose of them or pay a couple thousand each to ship them to Ukraine to use. The U.S. is giving 10's of thousands of Sparrow anti aircraft missiles to Ukraine. They've been out of use for 20 years and was also being disposed of at huge costs. The U.S. has 5 or 6 thousand Bradley's that are being slowly disposed of as well. They're old and obsolete. The U.S. is retiring F-16's(obsolete 4th gen) as fast as the F-35's are being built. The U.S. is currently using them for target practice many times over the ocean for disposal. Ultimately, 75% of everything the U.S. has given to Ukraine is past use by date. What the U.S. has learned from Ukraine will save the U.S. 10's of billions of dollars by knowing what does or doesn't work on the modern battlefield. Things such as GPS and Inertial Navigation systems are fast becoming obsolete. Thus the U.S. knows that using this technology in new weapons is money wasted. This is a win win for the U.S.. About your tax dollars. 80% will stay in the U.S.. Note the ATACMS missiles are expiring and will cost a million dollars each to dispose of. Or a few $1k each to ship to Ukraine. This alone will save around 2 billion U.S. tax dollars.

US is not short of money to modernize its own army. US military yearly budget is over 860 billions of dollars. If any one speculates with this kind of thing he is wrong. US is supplying Ukraine with its US military stock and those empty stocks need to be filled, that's what is happens. Of course US should do that to take advantage to upgrade its own weapons.

Before they add a new generation of armored vehicles, I'm really hoping the Army is taking the new battle space in mind, which includes potentially thousands of cheap drones buzzing overhead and precision missiles, which before too long some countries will be able to use to hit even moving targets. I don't see that anyone has properly addressed this or come up with any viable solution for. Right now, the war in Ukraine has shown the battle tank to be nothing more than a target for drones, and armored fighting vehicles to be nothing more than a troop concentration point that can easily be destroyed taking the troops along with it. And it's only going to get worse when everybody starts churning out millions of these drones. Right now, 1/800th of the US defense budget can create one million drones. How is armor going to stop these kind of numbers? Just about any major or intermediate military in the world is capable of this sort of production. Building new armored vehicles is just a way to create scrap metal and dead soldiers when we look at what's on the way. As cheap as these drones are, I could easily see the US having numbers counted in the tens or even hundreds of millions. How does armor beat that or any of our current anti-drone systems? Image a swarm of a million drones coming after your army's armor all at once. Even if lasers were employed, the cost of producing enough of these super high-tech weapons to defeat this kind of threat would break the budget quickly.

@@DB4331 The suggestion is that "aid for Ukraine is creating American jobs"; as if some how we are benefiting economically from the aid package to Ukraine. This is false. If we weren't spending money on Ukraine we would still be spending the same money, that comes from us, to create jobs and buy materials, to build our infrastructure or new defense munitions. Ukraine has nothing to do with it. But some would have us believe we can pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. In fact, we will spend more money out of the citizens pockets because some of the money spent on Ukraine would have been spent on upkeep of our own country. We certainly have seen, with Russia, what happens when very little money is spent on infrastructure. So more of the citizens money will be needed.

how much extra are these upgrades going to cost and how marginal are the improvements? because russia is already at less then half the price and their tanks arent as behind as we pretend.

That is one way to look at it, another way is that we are always in a war of some kind in this planet of ours. We are after all apes. And just because there may be another world war doesn't mean it will be the end of civilization. Just depends on whether Russia decides to use nukes or not..... Yeah that would be the end of the world. I don't know. Would you rather be a slave of Russia or dead? I know what I would choose. I would choose to fight. And if we die so be it. None of us are going to live forever anyway. And 50,000 years. Maybe something else will come up, dolphins or dogs. Maybe they won't fight like we do... And in universe time that will just be a blink of an eye. We are not the center of the universe.
