Kanan Jarrus (Caleb Dume) is a complete character in every sense of the word because contemplating how we met him, without proving that he was a JEDI, and only performing rebellious tasks, we saw him grow as a JEDI, as a MASTER and as a PERSON. We learned about his history and what he suffered as most of the survivors of order 66 the Jedi massacre, and although he did not finish his Jedi training properly, he took Ezra as an apprentice, being very difficult to teach him because of Ezra's attitude that for me It is worse than Luke and Anakin's together, (but I'll talk about that later), showing his great patience and managing to transmit all his knowledge, even after losing his sight defending his Padawan against a well-trained Sith such as Maul, emerging victorious. From that duel, and thanks to Bendu's advice, Kanan learns to live with the force and make a communion with it, which he later transmits to his young Padawan. And returning to Ezra's point, Ezra is an excellent character despite what everyone says, as we see his evolution from only surviving and stealing on the streets of Lothal, to learning to care and do something for the things that matter to him thanks to his teacher Kanan, who is a Father for him. Kanan's tragic death reinforces that lesson, with the Jedi himself and Ahsoka Tano telling Ezra that he needs to let go of his desire to save Kanan. Kanan dies a hero, protecting his entire crew after fighting in the Imperial Depot with Hera. He has come a long way since he hesitated to use a lightsaber against the Empire, preferring to hide his identity. The scene parallels the first time he came out of hiding in front of the Empire, when he armed his lightsaber to save captive Wookiees in the series premiere. Only now, when Kanan demonstrates his power, is he as public as he can get, atop the explosive fuel tank in full view of his crew and the Empire. In the end, Kanan becomes a beacon of light by which Ezra can see the way on his own Jedi journey. Kanan Jarrus is one of the best characters, Jedi masters that ever existed, for achieving what he achieved with his Padawan and with the rebellion, in addition to his intense power with the force, and from Ezra we left the door open for him to be equal to or better than his teacher.

0:49 And it is perfect storytelling. The slow buildup, the cutting of all but the sound of the blaster fire then the viewers hear the build of the song. Old fans recognize almost at once while new fans realize they are building up to something. And then...the lightsaber insights. And the viewers are like the Wookiee’s in awe as the scene and song comes full circle. You feel the hope of the Wookiee’s the shock of the troopers and the agent, not sure if they were seeing was real. This is how you build up a character and get a good payoff. He is not as famous as Luke, of Obi-wan, Yoda or Anakin, but he is a Jedi none the less and he brings that weight with him on screen.

Kanan Jarrus-Core I think that Kyle Stagner means that it should’ve been entirely about him. The main thing holding this show back is characters like zeb and Ezra, with Ezra having almost no true character traits, and zeb being annoying and useless to the plot. What i love about Kana vs the grand inquisitor, is that even before Kanan let The Force control him, he made the Inquisitor go on the defensive via the pistol, which is not something sith are used to. Their entire ethos is going on the offensive, and defensive movements are seldom taught in the sith world.

Kanan's death was seriously rough. I mean, we all knew it was coming as the knigth's were gone by the time Luke came into the picture, but it didn't make it any easier to watch. I originally thought Kanan was going to be utter shite because Friddie Prinze Jr. was voicing him, but Freddie did an amazing job with the character. Rebels is NEARLY as good as Clone Wars, and it does a damn good job of take the leads and cues from that series and continuing the story. honestly, I would KILL for Disney to make a story about Ahsoka and Sabine finding Ezra in the unknown regions. Ahsoka has such an insane following (and for good reason, Dave Filoni truly gave her an incredible story arc and fleshed out her character immensely) and I personally think it would kill if Filoni and Fav were given creative control (lets just screw "Resistance" from our memories as even existing)

His death was definitely one of the most heartbreaking in the entirety of the Star Wars sagas. Way more than Darth Vader’s, way more than the youngings(although they could have made younglings deaths more heartbreaking, but the idea alone, and the way they did it, made it not nearly as bad as it could’ve been-not that I’m complaining about that), way more than yoda and Luke’s....I could be forgetting someone’s, but the only one I can remember that really comes that close is the clone trooper Fives’ death. Oh, and arguably a death, was Anakin’s “death” on Mustafar was maybe as heartbreaking, or at least very close. Kanan becoming so strong with the force in his last moments, to heal his eyes, just so they could look into each others eye’s one last time.....his death would already have been one of the more heartbreaking even withOUT that aspect, but adding that part just blows everything else out of the water! Lol and now I’m going to ruin it lol...I can’t help thinking how as wonderful as that was for them to look into each others eyes one last time, the expressions on their faces could be almost more haunting than comforting. She sees his face and eyes extremely unhappy, scrunched in unimaginable strain, raw power, and fury and all, and he sees her face in sheer excruciating pained loss and terror! It would have ruined the moment for us, empathizing with her, if SHE forced a smile at HIM, cause that would’ve comforted us some, but if he was able to force a smile, or more gentle face to her in the last second...that might have been the only way it would’ve been even more sad than it was.
