There’s barely anything to do in Kanasawa. Once you’ve seen the historical neighbourhood, then there’s not much else and the city is completely void of people. You’re much better off going to Takayama and do day trips to: Shirakawago and Kamikōchi.

some lovely places to eat, especially alongside the stream, off the (admittedly rather generic) main road. Quite a cozy vibe. I had a very good meal in a place called ' slow luck' I'll earmark the places you mention for future trips though so i'm grateful for that.

Looks wonderful but Rickshaw - nothing in English, and do western childran have what to eat there. Not special food? What is shinkansen?
