As probe in the Kanchanjunga accident deepens, a document suggested that the driver of the goods train involved in the collision with the Kanchanjunga Express was not at fault. However, the railways claimed that even though he was given a pass, the driver allegedly violated the distance protocol. It was earlier reported that a document, known as TA 912, was issued to the goods train driver by the station master of Ranipatra. It authorised the driver to pass all red signals because the automatic signalling system was defective
However, railways have officially clarified that in TA 912, after passing the signal, the loco pilot should ensure that a minimum distance of 150 meters or two clear OHE spans is maintained between his train and the preceding train or any obstruction on the line, which was not done in the case. Further inquiry into this is underway.
