@@pawarranger oh no lol. My comment was badly put. I meant Andrew Sepuelli teaches at the University of Toronto and that's the school I attend (as does Victor C apparently). I dont teach philosophy yet.

I sympathize with Andrew's attempt to reconcile what he calls "pragmatism" with traditional moral realism, but it just seems like he is trying to eat his representationalist cake and eat it too. I'd rather see him attempt this reconciliation without recourse to realist terminology. I don't see how he can be a "pragmatist" and yet also appeal to "objectivity." I don't see how he can be a "quietist" and yet also declare the existence of an "independent realm of autonomous ethical truths" (58:00). As Kane points out, (32:40), seems to clearly be "bringing metaphysics back to pragmatism," thus making it no longer "pragmatism." At the end of the day, like all those who appeal to "stance independence oughts," he just laments that people are not always trustworthy and sometimes need to be controlled. And yet the only justification for that control can come from other people, who, conveniently, we don't want to control.

Ultimately Kane is right (1:01:38) - moral realists are a bunch of dorks. Coolness is the most important norm.
