a bicycle shadowed by the infamous Penny Farthing, but yet an important missing link in the history of the bicycle

What a brilliant machine. You can clearly see how they were evolving the Penny Farthing concept into a smaller, more manageable bicycle, without sacrificing the speed of stability the Penny Farthing was known for. Penny Farthings are iconic, obviously, and I'd love to own one, but given the choice, I think I'd take the Kangaroo. 🙂

There's one of these in the Canterbury museum, Christchurch, New Zealand. It once belonged to a family friend, as her first bike sometime during the middle of last century. Her uncle restored it, machining new links for the chains etc. before it was decided the Museum should have it. Both her father and uncle had their own bike shops here.

Wonderful video, found your channel courtesy of DriveTribe and the P50 car. I own a modern recreation of a 48 inch penny farthing, have raced in Tasmania, Australia in 2020 and will be doing a 40km challenge in Mudgee NSW Australia in May 2022. The kangaroo was a very interesting design. Like the P50, I feel like a celebrity when I ride my penny around !

That's really great to hear, my penny farthing is 52 inch or so, I have done the London to Brighton bike ride on it a few years back, good luck with your PF marathons sounds great fun indeed

Great video, bud! Hope someday you can take us on a visit to one of the prestigious bike museums there in England and perhaps get permission to feature examples of the two prior models of bikes that spanned between the penny farthing and the kangaroo, I.e. the facile, and the second version of it known as the geared facile - both of which had the same size ratio to the kangaroo, but instead of a chain drive offset to the center axle employed offset to the axle reciprocating treadles to drive it.

Clearly, size isn't all that matters. Jokes aside, great video! I hope you make more videos on Ordinaries and their siblings
