It's so hilarious that almost all of the comments are talking about how disappointed they were that it wasn't a talking kangaroo, and how badly marketing misled every child and parent at the time it came out. I actually was disappointed in this movie as an easily impressionable 9 year old kid. The trailers with the talking kangaroo and how the marketing for the movie announced itself got me excited, when I finally got to see the film all I expected was to see the talking kangaroo pop up, just to realize I only got less than 1 minute of it, and it was even a fake out in the movie. (An an awful one to say the least.) Even for such an unwise kid I felt I was scammed and cheated.

This movie used to be a normal crime movie with a non-talking kangaroo that stole money that was rated R, but since the only thing the test audience mildly enjoyed was the kangaroo, they cut out all the R rated scenes, added in a talking CGI kangaroo, and marketed it as a children's movie. (I've been told that it was actually PG-13 by one of the replies but idk how credible that is)
