Apparently, this movie is supposed to have an advanced technological future linked to distant primitive past (kind of like Assassin's Creed games) where modern day descendants are vying to find lost ancient treasure or knowledge, by reliving bloodline ancestors' memories and lifetime, using an Animus like machine!!!
