(*"With humbleness and humility, I apologize for the first draft of this video, that included "First" before "Nation", in the references to the community. Hopefully, I edited all of my mistakes out in this second draft. I ask for your forgiveness. Nia:wen.")
"Wahta Mohawk Nation" (*formerly known as (f.n.a.): "The Mohawks Of Gibson") is a Mohawk government, band and community, who are located in the District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, near Bala. Their territory (reserve) is bounded on the west, by Highway 400, a major north-south artery in the province of Ontario. About one-third of the 831 citizens of the Wahta Mohawk Nation live in the community of Wahta, along District Road 38, another third, live within 100 km and the remainder live elsewhere. The land is made up of forest and lakes, that are typical of the rugged Canadian Shield and is also used for hunting and fishing by Mohawk people from the reserves of Kanesatake and Kahnewake Quebec, who share access to this territory. Both they and the Mohawk of Kahnawake, Quebec (Kahnawà:ke), a reserve located south of the river from Montreal, also control and have hunting and fishing rights to Doncaster 17 Indian Reserve, (Tiowéro:ton. in Mohawk). Wahta was the site of the now-defunct Iroquois Cranberry Growers, which was Ontario's largest cranberry farm. The farm was shut down in 2017, due, to economic reasons. "Wáhta" is the Mohawk term for the Sugar Maple & Festival, one of their important ceremonies.
