It's hard to believe this is 30 years old. I was heavy into this in high school. Pretty deep music for a 15 year old kid...I'm over 40 now and this is just as awesome as it ever was.

I used to DJ at a Goth club in Colorado, and finally the last time I DJ'd this was the last song I ever played. Since the Tear Garden have never toured (WTF?) I always wanted to hear this song very loud. Mission accomplished.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time in ways I can never hope to express to anyone. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, I can't explain it to you.
@lisaspears5304 жыл бұрын
It took me ten years to get into this song. In 2005, I was part of the goth music share community in livejournal, and someone shared this track, raving about how "if you have one track by the Tear Garden, it HAS to be this one..." but I simply couldn't get into it. I tried, listened over and over, but it just didn't do it for me. Flash forward to 2014. I was commuting between Amsterdam and the Hague, a 50 minute train ride. After a while, I got sick of the music I was listening to, and one night, I was heading back to A'dam after dark. At night, they leave the lights on in the train, so you can't even look out the window (because of the glare). So I did what was, at the time, the completely unthinkable: I put my ipod on shuffle. This song came on, and I thought, what the hell, I've got 50 mins. I immediately got chills. Although I hadn't listened to it in eight years, I remembered the drum beat, Edward's creepy, ominous voice in the opening minutes, like letting you know something insane is about to happen. I had seen the pink dots at Slim's in SF a few years back, and could really picture him in that moment. When the guitar riff started at 11.04, it was like a punch to the gut. I actually started to cry, right there on public transit. It was one of the most beautiful riffs I'd ever heard. By 13.21, I was already emotional, and that next movement felt like I was being welcomed home after a long trip. Six years later, I still listen to all 17 minutes of this track regularly. I am now one of those people who obnoxiously tells people they "HAVE" to have this song.

You're number eight. Your name is Jane, with black hair, braids, and black lines around your eyes... Shades to hide your habit. I don't know your age, though you guessed mine... My sign. Your sign! The opening line is always just the same. The same intention, destination. - just you and me and rainbows. Loaded guns attract. We know the rules, we don't react. We wait in hope, we don't expect - just you and me and rainbows. Down here everything is fine. We have a straw, we have a line. We have a bag, a rock, a mountain with a string of shepherds driving lions. Aiming skewers at the sheep... face down, asleep in onion fields. The frying fields. The worms... they peep through holes which once were eyes. They thrive... they bake although we painted out the sky and the sun. There's only thunder, and you and me and rainbows. Let's hide out in the lay-by, let the time fly by. Tonight's disguise - a car crash with our wheels like shattered stars, our dashboard charred. Our windscreen... a graveyard for the flies (we're fast!) The hungry flies are circling, mourning as the watchers squat with cameras, cakes and flasks. They're spying, spitting as the blue light flashes, axes swing. We're broken wings, but still we'll fly and we'll reach our destination - you and me and rainbows. If we turn the lights down low and watch the sky cry through the window... Will I watch your fingers grow and stretch like butterflies? The shadows flexing, licking toes, and blinding as slowly sun sets on the same old hill. The same red glow. We're quite alone - just you and me and rainbows. Everything I own is in the corner of your room. It's covered with a sheet just like it died - but I will take a broom. I'll sweep it new again, arrange it... Oh, I'll grow a dozen hands. No I never will neglect my world again. I'm safe beneath my blanket. Call it home... For you. For me... and rainbows Loaded guns attract We know the rules, we don't react We wait in hope We don't expect Just you and me and rainbows Looking down.

*Pantone (R) Versus Primary Colors* "A Secret IQ Test" Have you achieved the Star Trek Q Continuum? How intelligent are your friends, really? A simple trick to measure someone's intelligence and scholarship and a way to bypass long tests or written quizzes and IQ tests is to ask whether they see humanity as all about the same, or vastly different and eclectic. Whether they see humanity as a difference of two feet or two hundred miles is obviously in favor of two hundred miles and vastly different and eclectic. This is due to transcendental perspectives and worldly wise viewpoints that only arrive through intelligent discourse. However, this must be done secretly as to not insult a large number of people for then it would create too much controversy. This can be further exemplified with the use of color schemes. One may feel more at ease with a tapestry of rich and subtle colors such as in a Pantone (R) book used for graphic arts or with a simple three color wheel of primary colors. A person can get smarter. It just takes a lot of work. Use with caution. This measurement is in alignment with the downward force of complexity and drive in the hierarchy of the spiritual and general consciousness of the universe. Note* This test only works to a certain degree of intelligence because at the end the world becomes more of an unchanging truth but still a certain degree of eclecticism will probably remain intact. It's an expanding universe slowly increasing in complexity as it expands. Being at ease with an increasingly complex universe is definitely a sign of extra intelligence.
