Yep it is an evil system, however Mahjong souls is perfectly playable with no handicap at any point without spending a single cent, so if all you want to do is just to play mahjong (like pre-saki collab Touya) you can do so without gachaing. But if you want that waifu/husbando characters prepare to get eaten alive by the predatory system.
