He tried to make it up for it though, he paid all the money back so i guess he knew what he was doing was bad and he wanted to truly apologize to his friend, world is not as easy as it seems, Shigeru didnt have a chance to run away, but his friend after dumping the debt to him, chose to come back with the money and was even prepared to get a good beating, none of this compensates all the years Shigeru suffered trying to pay the debt, but it shows how much sincere he was when he apologized. The fact is that he couldve run but chose to not leave without repaying the money and apologizing, dark times makes people choose dark paths, even Shigeru was about to do something unforgivable to his parents but chose to not end everything at the end

I'm usually pretty critical of these manga dub stories for things like characters, the writing, and so on, but I actually can't really say anything about this story. None of the "My name is blah blah blah" at the start, there was actually an organic way of introducing the characters' names. The characters had personality and there was actual substance to them. 100% one of the best of these manga dub stories I've seen.
