This is horrible. What I don’t understand is if you’re feeling threatened why don’t you call the police first? How do you justify shooting a unarmed black male at your front door who only mistake was ringing the wrong doorbell? Off subject but this makes me think about when I was doing instacart. So I shop this order then go to deliver it to the address on file. Once I arrive to the house, I take everything to the front porch. I knock and step back to take my pictures. While taking my pictures this caucasian male comes to the front door and just starts yelling. Then he walks away. So I call the number on file. While waiting for someone to answer. Not even 30 seconds later the Caucasian man comes from around back of his house up the drive way with a gun, and starts cussing at me. asking why I’m at his front door. I tell him I’m delivering his instacart order. He goes I didn’t order anything. While talking to him a women finally answer the phone. So while trying to keep my eyes on him to see what he’s going todo. I respond to her, and tell her I’m trying to deliver the order. I checked the address, and the man with the gun is telling me I’m at the wrong house. So she immediately started apologizing. She tells me she ordered the things on instacart for her sick friend. He’s under the wheather/ sick so she wanted to get somethings for him. So I tell him who ordered the things and why I’m at his door. He never apologizes and just goes back into the house. I was so thankful for the lesbian couple walking there dog cause they saw the whole thing. Which I think also made him not go any further. I think once he saw people were witnessing his crazy actions he try’d to change his demeanor. They even apologized to me. It was weird to have 3 Caucasian women apologizing for the actions of a full grown Caucasian male. I really couldn’t believe I had a gun pulled on me because I knocked on someone’s door. I mean I’ve only been alive for 31 years, but I’ve never pulled a gun on someone who came to my front door unannounced. Never even thought about it, Also if I was feeling threatened I sure wouldn’t go out side to confront the threat, but that’s just me. I don’t get why don’t you call the cops if you feel someone at your door is a threat?

Yeah I guess Ralph Yarl is as "okay" as anybody can be who got shot in the head and then after he was already on the ground in a pool of his own blood also got shot in the arm and will have PTSD for the rest of his life even IF he COMPLETELY recovers from the PHYSICAL injuries which certainly isn't guaranteed. The bullet to the head alone reportedly cracked his skull and therefore caused a certain degree of traumatic brain injury. The old man also shot him in the arm for "good measure" after he was already lying on the ground and since Ralph was a musician who played the clarinet in the school band and I believe other instruments as well, his ability to continue enjoying music may also be affected. Music is something that would probably help him deal with the PTSD he's likely going to have now but maybe he won't even have that therapeutic outlet if the damage to his arm is too debilitating.

People don't normally answer the door with a gun. My guess is that the elderly man went to answer the door, and it was taking too long, and the kid probably looked through a window to see if his siblings were playing jokes on him. He had no idea he was at the wrong house. The old man saw the kid peeping through the window and got his gun. It's probably not any more complicated than that. By the time the old guy got to the front door, the kid may have tried to open the storm door to knock, and that's when he got shot.

Its true. Noone should live in fear. Whether you knock on someone's door or receive a knock on your door. I don't think its a race issue. I think its an 85 year old man with obvious health issues, woken from sleep and in fear. Grabbing a gun? Ok. Call the cops but don't shoot through the door. He should be held accountable. What you think doesn't line up with what they know. See how that works? Too many people think that just because they have an opinion that it is valid, valuable or should be shared. Pretending to have more experience, education or knowledge than you actually do is very narcissistic America. Trying to excuse racist behavior because you want to distance your own unexamined racism convinces only you. Black people know the who, what, where, why and how construct of race and experience the words, behaviors, patterns and practices of it's beneficiaries. No one would cling to and vote for policies that are immoral if they didn't like, need and benefit from it. After 500 years it is not possible. You can't fix what you won't face. Denial will not erase what Black people know to be true. What racism is and what it is not. Who upholds, gatekeeps and participates in racist ideologies beliefs, and behaviors in individual and structural racism. Denial will also not Black people from fighting for our total liberation in America and are over white people trying to move the goalposts. The distance between thinking and knowing is a bridge that white people assume they have crossed. You have not because accepting the truth is too much for most white people to bear. This good guy quest is not going to change anything until you are ready to face you. Isn't it amazing that y'all can point at everything and everybody else but are too afraid to point in your direction. Question why you don't think it's a race issue when race is the beginning, middle and home stretch of America. What about you is so special that you escaped intentional anti-Blackness throughout the existence of America. This mulberry bush Black people are not going around anymore.
