"Kansas City's Melting Pot"

My February sweeps long form story from 2-20-12. Kansas City's historic North End neighborhood, long called "Little Italy," has become more of a "Little Vietnam" in recent years due to the influx of Vietnamese immigrants. We look at the fascinating history of the neighborhood and pay tribute to the immigrant spirit. These folks were willing to integrate and saw tolerance and equality of others as part of the culture to embrace. They learned the laws and complied. They were willing to be equal and work side by side in cooperation. Good for them! My sister and I had friends and housemates from Vietnam and Greece in 1974 at the time that there was danger and flight from their countries due to war. They were very afraid for their families and lost contact. We were all at Emporia State College then. Cambodia students and Thai students also lived with me in a house the year before.
