Kansas City Union Station

During our visit in KC Abby took us downtown so we could check out the famous Union Station. Beautiful place and very cool to see such a historic and iconic building and location.

Glad they saved it! So many towns destroyed those beautiful train stations for the lots they occupied. The story of Penn Station in New York is a real heart breaker, so much craftsmanship and beauty and just wreck it all for progress. :-(

bcbloc02 yeah they were talking about tearing it down. It was so important even Kansas taxpayers paid for its renovation and a new museum in a different state. Downtown was an abandoned wasteland back then.

I grew up in Kansas City and visited the station in 94 when it was in decay and there was water all over the floor.

I’m glad that they saved that building and bridge. Some time you may consider an Amtrak trip on a sleeper car. I have done this several times from New York to Orlando FL. Cool going through cities and small towns. Great video.

Thanks for taking on this cool trip and tour with you and Abby Our union station down town kind of went through the same thing it was falling apart and they did a huge renovation on it I think in the 90's and it is now a very nice Hotel and restaurant.

My brother works security at union station I've been to crown center and union station and the federal reserve and the WW1 memorial(nice places 10/10 would go again)

This was the busiest train station when it was built in the United States outside of NYC.

an even more beautiful train station was the Train Station in Detroit. Ford Motor Company just purchased that location (along with a few other locations in that area) for $90 Mil...The restoration work has begun. The station will be part of Ford Motor Company as well as retail outlets and such. Restoration costs are estimated to be about $500 MILLION for the Detroit Train Station.

Some great eats in KC! Hereford House, Boulevard Brewing, tons of BBQ Joints as well as Steak Houses. I spent WEEKS down in KC for my job. I think I gained 30 pounds one summer during an install..LOL

NOOOOOOOoooooo! Granted it has been YEARS since being down there (the last time I was down there was when Ford had a Truck and a Car plant down there)...We used to go there at least once per trip because the steaks were awesome, and the prices were amazing. There used to be another steak house we'd go to right by the Stock Yards, parked in a parking lot that was shared by a stadium (not sure which stadium any longer). GREAT Steaks there too. Miss KC for their food to be sure.

WreckDiver99 it’s completely different now. There’s light rail down Main Street and everything. Hereford house burned down in 2008. Most people forgot it existed although there are still other newer locations. That was the original. Downtown has been going through a revival you should come check it out.

@@kansasisntflat8608 Downtown wasn't the best when I was going there for work in the Ford facilities back in the late 90's. 5PM Rolled around and the downtown was a ghost town. Regularly saw people getting arrested back then. We'd go to dinner down there and see at least one arrest a night. Too bad all those places are gone though, some awesome meals were had down there back then.

Western Auto started as a mail-order auto parts supplier, but by the 1950's had morphed into a Sears Roebuck clone that sold just about everything except auto parts. Especially the 'associated stores' in small towns, like where I grew up.
