I saw Kansas when they were still White Clover in Western Kansas. They were playing in places like The Opera House in Ellinwood, Kansas. They were raw but you could tell they were going to smooth the edges off and kick some rock and roll *ss....Song for America is a true rock ballad.....BTW, Kansas is the Plains Indians name for the People of the South Wind. We have hellacious South winds in the Summer here.

A lot of people who vote for the rock and roll hall of fame are critics, magazine writers, etc. Most are too young to have heard Kansas in their heyday with no idea what an impact they had on music. So the critics votes go to much less deserving bands. Is Joe Jackson or Beck in the hall? Kansas had talent oozing from their pores and can't get in. What's wrong with this picture??

I like the tracks used here, many seem to be alternative takes from the originals. Where are they from?

They've had so many lineup changes.. it's hard for me to find tracks of the earliest songs being sung by the vocalists I ended up hearing in the 70's. Somehow I'm used to Steve Walsh.. yet he isn't the original lead vocalist on many of my favs.. for instance, HOW did I come to associate HIS voice on "Carry On Wayward Son"? They must be live tracks from when Steve Walsh was put in place of more lead vocals and less writing?

@@mecfstraveler Steve Walsh is the original singer of Kansas. He is the voice on carry on wayward son and Dust in the wind, and almost every song that Kansas had on the radio. Walsh left the band in 82 or 83 and Kansas had John Elephants sing for a couple years. Walsh came back in 85 after starting the group Streets. Kerry Livgren found religion and Dave Hope did too and John Elephante was a Christian already. The 3 left the band in 84. The band looked doomed but with the return of Walsh and the bass player Billy Greer also from the band streets started up again in 85. Kerry is a genius and they missed his superior song writing but managed.to put out some more good songs in the 80's and 90's. They were a 5 piece for quite awhile. After Walsh's second departure in 2014 the band then went through a major overhaul. Rich Williams and Phill Ehart are the only remaining original members left now.
