I think the '9er defense's "group shot" in the end zone as if the game were over really lit a fire under the Chiefs. It showed real arrogance. If they'd won after that display, then it'd go down as pride. But when they tanked down the stretch, it was revealed as arrogance.

Historically, the team that's dominant up front - especially if it's on BOTH sides of the ball - wins all the marbles. Great QBs, like Mahomes, have historically gotten teams TO the Big Dance, but weren't enough to win it all. Elway and Marino are prime examples. Not only is Mahomes a broke-the-mold special kind of player, but I think KC was quietly playing better up front than people gave them credit for. Same as some of those '9er teams when Joe Cool was under center. The passing game got all the accolades, but their O-Line and D-Line were top-shelf, as well.
@aaronday21224 жыл бұрын

stevie niccs not quite. The Chiefs defense for the entire game didn’t play aswell as the 9ers but the thing is in the end the chiefs defense wanted it more they were hungrier and they had that energy about them. The Chiefs defense played in the end with a huge chip on their shoulder, and the 9ers started to get gassed by the chiefs offense when andy finally decided to open up the play book for more explosive plays. And the 9ers defense cant defend the chiefs offense if half of the chiefs offensive players are firing on all cylinders. Yeah the 9ers defense got to mahomes but the 9ers d couldnt stop them in the end. They didnt have that “it factor” that the chiefs offense has. Richard sherman got dusted by just about every receiver in the final 7 minutes and the rest of the 2ndary couldnt keep up.

Lamar's only weakness was his loyalty. We first noticed it after they won the SB in 1970, and kept the team together much longer than they should have, because they (Hunt and Stram) LOVED those guys! Also, Clark's loyalty to his father played a role. In Lamar's declining years, Clark let Peterson stick around, because he was like a son to Lamar. Peterson wasn't very good for the last 10 years as GM in KC. After Lamar passed, Clark took charge. He didn't get it right, right off the bat, but he wanted it, BAD, and changed his "football model" until it started to work, and he stuck to it, afterward.

This is the most lit Super Bowl video I’ve seen. The Chiefs defense was the worst in the league. In ONE off season with a new Defensive coordinator and I don’t even know how many new starters at key positions, not only improved drastically, but are the low key heroes of the entire second half of the season, the post season, and finally the Super Bowl. The media has been so focused on Mahomes, either over praising him or over hating on him, that they haven’t really given near enough credit to this INSANE turnaround in one season by this defensive unit. This is a defense last year that single handedly lost the AFC Championship game and kept the league MVP who threw 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards from winning the Super Bowl in his rookie season as a starter. That has to be a historically bad defense to not get it done when your QB has a season that has only been accomplished twice in league history, by Peyton Manning and Tom Brady no less, and you don’t win it all. That is a blame that only the defense can take. One off season, this defense won it all when the QB didn’t have a spectacular season, and the offense suffered injuries at every key position except tight end. They won it all. Unbelievable.

@harrymills27704 жыл бұрын
KC was long-overdue for a pressure-based defense, which USED to be their calling card, in the '90s. They started playing like pussies when Gunther Cunningham took over. Used to drive me crazy, because he'd get all puffed-up making speeches about George S. Patton, but when he blitzed, he'd leave guys back deep and leave the whole middle of the field wide open to a depth of about 20 yards. "Have the courage of your convictions!" I'd say. "Blitz like you MEAN it and SIT on the hot routes!" The bottom line for all this is the GM and the scouting dept. Coaches are important, but most make their names off superior talent. No secrets in the NFL. It comes down to matchups, and KC assembled a team that wins more key matchups than I've seen since they threw away their chances of a championship by bringing in Joe Montana, without putting the right people AROUND Joe Montana, who took more beatings in 2 seasons as a Chief than he took in any 10 years as a '9er. They'd've had a better chance keeping Steve Deberg and giving him better OTs. Martyball worked as long as KC was up enough to keep the running game a viable threat. But if they were down in the 4th quarter and teams KNEW they had to throw the rock, their offensive tackle play was exposed over and over again.

I love the part where Andy Reid was hyping Mathieu, telling him he's the best in the business and that's why he's here. FUCK YES!!! So glad they brough Mathieu to this team. I was hoping the Chiefs would get him out of the draft. It's better this way... THANK YOU Tryann

As a Seahawks fan it sucked losing Frank Clark. Chiefs got a beast and I'm glad he won a superbowl
