I'm Telugu, but I'm extremely connected with the story. I didn't understand the meaning of climax or hero's father disappearance since it was left with a puzzle for ppl who are unaware of Punjarli Demi-god but I researched for reason, then I understood the reason. Also, main essence of movie is that land/nature doesn't belong to anyone, so humans shouldn't be greedy but use it with respect and be responsible. This should connect anyone from any state. Here forest officer depicts nature, hero Shiva depicts human, Villain depicts greediness. It is conflict between nature vs human vs greediness. Demi God eliminates villain thereby eliminates greediness and asks nature and human to work together in sync by holding all their hands together at the end.

Basically what i felt about the storyline is greedy person is always greedy and he wont change even with the past incidents happened to their ancestors. He doesn’t want to give up his property. In reality also there are many people who try to grab neighbors land if there is a possibility. I liked the director’s projection of this and also the caste issue that is not changing so easily. Villain uses hero for most of his needs in the film but never likes him to pass his front door

I am a Kannadiga and i agree that it’s not easy for non Kannadigas to connect to the culture or the comedy presented in the movie. That’s the reason it wasn’t initially released in other languages. Everything you said is true!! It’s a very well made and one that must watch it in theaters, technical aspects of the movie is amazing but couldn’t call the best movie ever made in Kannada cuz i felt something is missing. Additionally, KFI had always produced amazing movies. Puttana kanagal, Siddalingaiah, Girish kasarvalli Shankar Nag etc directed movies which were ahead of it’s time. Kannada industry slumped heavily during early 2000s with very few great movies. With young directors like pavan kumar, Hemanth rao, shetty gang, prashant neel we are finding our footing back again into Indian movie Industry

You have given right review about this movie. I'm a kannadiga and i enjoyed the comedy, so well blended into the script.. but that police projected as villan becomes supportive to villagers and village head becomes villan .. this is beaten to death twist. I agree with your negative points. It did not give me the high tumbadd gave, even though this has entertaining elements.. It's not fully satisfying but definitely a very good movie with gripping narration. Hats off to Rishab Shetty

Watched your review of the movie. As you said people from other regions may not get connected with the cultural beliefs, culture of this movies. There are 2 parts in the story which you may not have understood due to language constraint. First part is about a king who is in search of peace of mind despite having everything. He swaps his land with villagers for the sake of deity. Person who grants his wish represents deity. Hero is a descendant of this person and villain is a heir of that King. Villain narrates his intellectually disabled son,how he want to capture his land back by deceiving villagers. When villagers resist,he uses his muscle power indiscriminately. That's why he killed even a small girl. Hero is possessed by his father, who disappeared after saving villagers land. Once it's done,as per local stories,he becomes redundant and reach deity's abode. Same happened with hero. A little bit of kannada language would've helped you to understand. However, your review is good. Agree with you that movie can't connect with other regions but performance of protagonists, screenplay, story are really amazing and gripping. There's little scope for comedy because of the story.

Basically the logic behind how the hero finally became god is .. He got hit on his head near sahasrar chakra .. that's how I see it .. that could be the reason he ended up as such .. To add more context, hero's father did god seva and hero's younger bro also did god's duty. Hence after younger bro getting killed it is his turn that god enter's hero (in annual festival) moving forward .. hero is also now enlightened. Director showed hero now got realization. So it is apt ending .. Music and back ground is good and kept us intriguing but one thing to point out is the tune that is used in the back ground of this movie (aa aa, oo oo, ea ea) seemed to be influenced from similar ayyappanum koshiyum movie's background tune I watched telugu version of this movie, so I felt good. I connected with the movie. Barbell reviewer saw the kannada version with sub titles, so that could be the difference Same villain ending is not bad. That's how people are .. They act nice first and show true colors eventually. That's ground reality. And story is that good will win over bad, eventually. Karma strikes Very good movie 🍿

As you said Kantara is a very regional film. That is why it was not released as Pan-India film. It was released in Kannada language. Due to demand and ofcourse commercial aspects, it was dubbed and released in other langauges. We, Kannadigas understand that movie and also the concept of Daiva more better because the Daiva is very centric to again the South Canara region (Mangalore - Karavalli belt). The places there are actually mysterious. If you visit that place atleast once, you would have connected with the folk lore.
