It seems that Kanye West is also overlooking the many people that revolted against, ran away from, and fought against their ignorant, and hateful oppressors, some even dying in the process. Even after slavery, the fight for equality and the rights all humans should have never ended. If it weren't for those that lived, fought, and even died for freedom and equality, there is a good chance that slavery would still be a thing today.
@bobhollywood4093

The folks who didn't want to be slaves, died fighting for their freedom. That was their choice, which is what I took Kanye to mean.
@GO-GO_SO-SO
@GO-GO_SO-SO 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobhollywood4093There were many, most probably, that did not want to be slaves but did not fight for the fact that they would be killed if they did so. Most would say that there really was no other choice but to be enslaved if death is your only likely outcome. If someone put a gun to a woman's head and told them to not fight back as they sexually assault the woman or they will pull the trigger, most would agree with the victim when she said they did not have a choice. Then there are some people that would say that the woman had a choice and that they should have fought and most likely died. All I am saying is that it is not fair to just put all the blame on the many slaves because they did not want to die or be tortured trying to be free.

I feel this is kind of similar to what Eminem went through in that people kept criticizing him for what he put into his songs, except Eminem became self-conscious about what he was saying and that his music did have an effect on young people; therefore, he started to parody what he had become and in Bad Guy, he straight up told everyone that he was scared of how he built his success off of cold-heartedness. Plus, at the end of the Marshall Mathers LP, he at least said that what he said people should not take seriously. Stan, it says enough on its own.

Even if you put Kanye West's asinine comments about slavery aside, and his recent idiotic antics aside, there is no justification in calling this guy a "genius". If you define Kanye West as a genius, then you measure by a very low bar. There is nothing that is artistically exceptional about this guy, that would merit the term "genius". Mozart and Beethoven were musical geniuses. Jimi Hendrix and Prince were musical geniuses. A buffoon like West, who samples music, drafts poorly written lyrics with rudimentary rhyme schemes, all while posing for the camera, is not "genius".
@yakuza01
@yakuza01 6 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you there. I never understood why the 2 Korey's and some people in the black community put him on such a high pedestal. I am willing to meet his fans halfway and say that he is an above average musician (and even then, with some reservations) but genius(?????). Like I don't understand why Korey G. even bothered to mention his clothing line. You shouldn't get "creativity points" if the final product is shit. Maybe, I just don't "get it" but it seems like a lot of people who highly regard his music have a blind spot for him. Again, I am not saying that his music is an abomination but genius-level. Really????

Ladygothii12 actually that was a small thing that people got mad about on social media. Some people didn't want some History Professors getting popular or spreading their words to others because the subjects they teach doesn't have enough diversity in the subject or not enough women in the history subjects or women speaking the lessons. So that's kinda why big history lessons or subjects aren't popular enough, it's being pushed down and others becoming more popular because they like them more like the Paul Brother's who's trying to spread "Love"

As a naturalized American I've seen my parents have to start over when their old jobs weren't recognized, relying on the support of previously settled family and trying to find their way in the new system. Despite the culture shock, we were blessed to live in an English-speaking land of our choosing, which had a system that allowed them to go beyond minimum wage jobs. So, yeah, I can see how the Slave Trade would take at least four centuries to surmount.

Kanye West is an intelligent man. He is knowingly using a philosophy of Aristotle to comment on the Afro American situation. The fact that people are pissed off is great. One must always speak ones truth to power. And the Twitter lynchmobs are pretty powerful at the moment.

The quote of him talking about slavery was taken out of context. That entire interview was. Until it is out without any edits, don't believe a word TMZ tells you. He was referring to people still choosing to be upset about something that has/had no effect on them and happened hundreds of years ago. He is saying that people choose to live in a state of victim hood where everyone and everything in the world is against them and nothing is their own fault.

...did you watch the video? There is no need to edit what he said. There was no magical parlor tricks or lawyer speak used to confuse him. He said it and meant it. I don't care if he said it to build on another point, the fact that he said it at all is fucking nuts. Quit making excuses. He needs to own this. His own ignorance, narcissism, and greed for attention coupled with his obvious mental illness has left him a sad, Gary Busey-esque sack of instability. He needs to check himself in to an actual living on the ward psychiatric facility. Like, an Asylum. He has gone past the need for meds. He needs serious help, and you making excuses and playing the blame game is the fucking opposite of helpful.
