Donuts is actually influenced by Madlib’s style of producing, most of J Dilla’s discography is based on lofi drum heavy beats with groundbreaking sonic effects. Hi pitched soul and funk chops (like early Kanye beats) were popular at the time so Donuts was basically Dilla proving he could perfect and master this style better than anyone.
