Every single one of them are legends, but you know, you have someone from a completely different genre of music like Elton John hop on this, that appreciates the art being created. I'm still floored Paul McCartney and Kanye made a song. Some art transcends genres, and I've shown many classic rock people who have started listening to hip-hop because I showed them this album. It's incredible what was accomplished with not only this song, but the whole album. I played in a jazz band in high school, as a sax player, with a drummer who played gospel all the time. The amount of respect and talent we added to each other's craft was absolutely incredible. I brought more of a prog rock sound to my playing, and he just brought full gospel drums, the mixture of the two was unlike anything I've ever worked with before. The conductor would just let us go for 16 bars every song we played at the events we did, with nothing but applause. Seeing two different genres of music mix reminds me of those times, it is still as awesome as the first time I heard it about a decade ago.

Kanye has always used “Lights” as a reference to his journey in other songs so this “All of the Lights” is the entire journey; hence the legacy of Kanye West. The message of this song is that Kanye “want(s) you to see everything” whether it be his highlights “fast cars, shooting stars” symbolizing his rise to fame, or the worst, “Vegas” symbolizing Sin City or his Sins. When he talks about “I slapped my girl” and “spent that bread” that’s the moment of his life where everyone canceled him for hitting Taylor Swift. the “daughter” he’s referencing is not a literal person as at this point in time he didn’t have any, but rather his music. When he says her “mother, brother, … hate me in that order” Kanye’s talking about the other related music genres and it’s artists hating on him after that incident. He doesn’t want “her grow up in ghetto university” as in he doesn’t want the way he was raised in the ghetto continue affecting his music and it’s reputation. “We going all the way this time” continues on like how when you get an overdose it starts repeating itself and that’s why it gets quiet for a bit as he gets close to dying from all these burdens on him. He tries to “tell you but all I could say is oh” is him trying to describe this life but he can only represent it through music as of the “ohh” part. At the end of the day, this song shows Kanye’s point in life where he tries to break free from the bad portion of the culture he was raised in.
