Music, like love, is a universal language that everyone knows and understands but may not always appreciate its depth or know how to embrace it. This music originated in the United States in 1985 as a single on the album of American singer, George Benson. It became an international hit in 1987 when it was covered and released by American singer, Glen Medeiros. It soothed and pulled at the heartstrings of lovesick teenagers here in the United States and in Europe. How the music from a US Top 20 pop ballad in the 1980’s can continue to spread love by touching the souls of performers and listeners alike from all over the world is proof that the world CAN be a better place for ALL of us IF we want it to be. We only need to make the choice to use our universal language to accept, heal, and celebrate one another IN SPITE of our cultural differences. And, Ms. Kaori Kobayashi, if you are reading this, it is clear that you have embraced the universal language of love with your entire soul in this performance, and in other performances of this very song. And that is what music does-it expresses the hopes, dreams, and the love that live deep inside of our hearts and souls. It gives a glimpse of our best selves, even in times of tremendous pain and suffering. And that is SOUL. THANK YOU for reminding us of our capacity to have soul no matter our race, nationality, or creed.
