My mate had one of these brand new in 1974 took a big kick to start it. I think it had a decompression lever to help the kick start. Cheers guys love your work.
@donniebaker59842 жыл бұрын
Yes they did have a decompression valve hooked up to a cable that was fastened the the kicker lever ...there was a cable adjuster similar to a clutch cable adjuster ..to get the adjustment right on the decompression valve .....there was also a 14mm threaded hole with a bolt plugging the hole ..it was not meant for an extra spark plug , but instead you could get a 14mm compression release valve that was hand operated you would bolt on like a mini clutch lever ..what was cool when you dump all the combustion chamber compression pressure ...the boost pressure in the crankcase will stop the piston from going up and down cause the back tire to lock up and slide ...this was great for going down miles of steep mountains without burning up your brakes...if yours was hard to kick it probably needed to adjust the cable

That's awesome. I had one. It was bullet proof. I rode it off-road 100% of the time. Dunes were a challenge if you were carrying a passenger and the dunes we high and it was summer. It's low seat height and heavyness helped oddly enough when exploring off road.

I had one of those back in 74 while living near the beach Luquillo, Puerto Rico. Inland, not far fromt he coastline there was El Yunque rainforest, my stomping grounds trying to replicate Evel Knievel stunts, like climbing 90 degree inclines after heavy tropical forest rains that often washed up chunks of roads that just fell leaving the roads that surounded the rainforest looking like some monster had bitten chunks of mountain road. Did some crazy stunts back then. Surprised that I didn't unalive myself, nearly.

Hello Ken. Within the last couple weeks, I have been really enjoying your videos. My first bike was a Yamaha CT1 175 which I bought used in 1973. I was 18 at the time. I had fond memories of that bike, When the RT1 360 came on the scene, I saw it in an official Yamaha printed release. It never made it to my country. But it was in my dreams. Seeing it today at Kaplan's gave me the goosebumps all over again, albeit on 67-year old skin ! If I was living in the USA, I would surely have purchased this bike right off the bat !!! To import that bike from my country would cost a monumental sum. Aside from 25% Customs Duty and 15% V.A.T. on the C.I.F price, our exchange rate is 1$US= TT$6.80 !! But thanks still, for the nostalgia. You're the best ! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

One of my dad’s friends back in the mid 70’s had this bike…used it on the ranch for irrigating. It took a beating, but it was a rockstar of a bike. Once kicking it over, I didn’t kick it all the way and the kickback launched my foot up and my heel (was in sandals) hit the buddy peg and it ripped the skin off of my heel to the bone. Compression release anyone? Great bike right here. His was gold btw. 🤘🤘🤘

He would buy old Street and dirt bike,s rebuild them put them out for sale it was great we had the pick of all the bike,s. I bought my first Benelli Mini bike off him then, I bought a Scat tracker off him which I have not seen one since the 70,s. I believe Sear,s or Western Auto sold them! I just Checked JC Penneys, sold them. This one was extra chopped and a Bigg RM 250 2stroke Suzuki motor on it if I can remember correctly! I do know one thing, it would stand that chopped Girder front end? straight up in the air.

Kaplan got your ears on ? I bought one of those brand new in 1974 . Its an all new engine design for 1974 ..the cooling fins are longer . The port timing is staged for low end torque more than the 1973 ..the frame is of the 1972-73 MX style that is a bit longer wheel base that the 1973 ... Longer wheel base gives you more stability at high speeds in loose sand and gravel ...about 85-90mph is top speed ...the carburator is a 30mm Mikuni .32hp and 26 ft. lbs. Torque ..i once put a 34mm Mikuni on mine and it performed like the MX360 ..and so i motocross race . Scrambles , cross country , and enduro raced it for 5 years ..in 1975 i won first overall the 15th annual Prairie Dawg motorcycle club of Alamogordo , New Mexico , the Cloud Croft Mile High Enduro 100 miles long .......notice the rear tire on your DT360 ..it is the tread pattern of the original trials tire that is required in trials competition , but look how long the block treads are ..they are a good three times longer ...write down all the info off the side of that rear tire please ... Brand name and who made the rear tire ....here's why >>> Do you remember the 1975-1980 Honda TL250 four stroke trials competition bike ...??? images.app.goo.gl/VVwooEAbpyeVVDun6 The first time team honda factory entered a professional Trials competition ,honda had installed a set of tires just exactly like that rear tire on your DT360 ..its a block tread right ? But with three times longer blocks that bend and grab sharp edges of broken boulders and dig like Knobby's in wet leaves and tree branches sand and loose clay..you got pretty much a full knob tire ..honda done real good with a win ..then the judges saw those "cheater tires" and disqualified team honda all together and bared them from the competition ...i was told this story from attending one of the honda service schools ..get the info off your rear tire ..i have never seen one or the tires that honda got caught cheating with ..i believe you have one ..way to go !
