I'm an English teacher and I major in TESOL or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and while I encourage everyone to learn other languages no matter how old you are now, I still strongly recommend that we should first master or know our own language (s) and/or dialect (s) before learning other languages. Sabi nga ni Jose Rizal, "Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa ang amoy sa mabahong isda."

Effective talaga to, kaya minsan maganda din na english pinapanuod ng mga bata para d na sila mahirapan mag english. Kami dati ng kambal ko, disney movies/shows at lalo na yung mga barbie movies dati yung mahilig naming panuorin. Ganyan din, gumagaya gaya. Kaya nung ng migrate na kami dto sa Canada 11 yrs ago, nagulat na lng parents namin ba’t american agad accent namin gayong kakarating lng namin dito. D naman kami nakapag-aral sa international schools sa Pinas. D nga talaga kami nag eenglish doon. Haha! D rin kami nahirapan intindihan yung mga slangs, samantalang sila mama at papa, nabibilisan sa pananalita nila. Hirap na hirap sila nung una. I totally agree my son is 3yrs old at nakita ko madali siyang matututo ng ibat-Ibang language. Ang asawa ko ay Dutch at dito kami sa Netherlands nakatira pero palagi ko siyang kinakausap sa tagalog at English. Ngayon Alam na niya at nakakaintindi ng tagalog. Ngayon naman tinuturuan ko siya ng dialect ko na iloko. kinakausap niya ang papa niya sa Dutch at ako naman sa tagalog at English. Nakakatuwa lang.

I have an American Accent when I speak English and it’s my natural way of speaking when I speak the language. I’m even a bit afraid to apply it in class because I think people would say I’m showing off or exaggerating, which I’m not. I tend to practice and apply the Filipino English Accent sometimes but it’s already something that I mean and it’s uncomfy. Mas mabuti talagang turuan o itrain ang mga bata habang hindi pa ito nag 9 years old kasi ganun din ginawa sakin ng parents ko nung bata ako. Pinapanuod nila sakin Barney, Power Rangers, Mickey Mouse kaya nakokopya ko yung mga dialogues nila. Di pa uso British cartoons that time. Pagdating mo ng 9 kasi mahirap nang turuan sarili mo

See the impact of having your kids be exposed to media content? This is exactly the reason why dubbing isn't needed for English shows, especially cartoons or animations. Let your kids watch the original English audio! That's how they can learn to speak good English at a young age (be it British or American or Australian accent). I have to say, I never lived in America, but the Americans I talk to at work always thought I lived in Canada, or New York, because of my accent. I told them I was just only exposed to English shows on TV while growing up. In the 80s and early 90s, I only get exposed to Tagalog shows once in a while when our parents watch noontime shows and the evening news. It helped a great deal with school. All of us, me and my sisters always ace our English classes from grade school to high school. I wish the local media would do their part on educating the masses through keeping what is English in English. No wonder more Filipinos these days are losing their good command of the English language. That needs to change. STOP DUBBING ENGLISH TO TAGALOG.

Parents or guardians should heed the education expert's advice and Ms. Jessica's parting note. Parents should meticulously select quality shows for their children to watch. And it is best that before a child learns how to communicate effectively in English, he or she should have a good mastery of the Filipino language. Personally speaking, I became fluent in English at a very young age and others say I also have this particular British accent when speaking. That said, I grew up in a modest household where Kapampangan was the language spoken. I also didn't assiduously watch any English (US/UK) shows as a child. I swiftly accomplished English fluency by constant reading and recitation of entries in an old picture dictionary belonging to my elder siblings; communicating as much as possible with native English speakers (conveniently, my playmates were children of former expats); and paying close attention to my English studies at school. What one should foremostly remember is this: the ultimate goal in learning English is to develop the ability to express oneself effectively, orally and in writing. When one has already developed a good grasp of the fundamentals, then improvement of the voice, pronunciation, and diction will consequently follow.

The first kid still knows how to speak Bisaya and sounds like native Bisaya! Kudos to the parents! Learning English is okay but learning and loving your mother tongue first is much better!
