OMG This is just shameful, how could a writer honestly think this is empowering to women? It comes across as disrepectful, disingenuous and pandering. If I was the writer, this is what I would have done: You shouldn't have to tear someone else down to lift someone else up! It will always look better to show them as equals, not better or worse than each other. That would be more respectable and empowering. At least they didn't do this on the Smallville series, Clark's was always powerful because his strength is not just his powers but how he was brought up on Earth, his humanity made him strong too. With respect and good writing, they made Kara on Smallville an equal, shes just as strong as Clark but and she can fly sooner because Clark hasnt learned that ability, they don't make Clark look weak because of it. The whole show is about him becoming the hero the world needs. He can't fly until he finally lets go of all his sorrow, fear, and doubt and embraces his destiny. On Supergirl and the CW Arrow-verse they have made Superman go against everything he has stood for in the past. Superman is supposed to be a pillar of hope, strength, and power. This version looks like he never truly embraced his destiny, in fact, his cousin steals his destiny.

In the comics, Superman's feats are far greater than anything Kara has done. This man benchpressed the weight of the earth and that's not even the most impressive of his accomplishment. Supergirl used a similar tactic by launching a surprise attack on the Anti-Monitor in turn pressed her attack to give others a chance to get Superman to safety. Plus the narration boxes stated that she knew that anything that could hurt her cousin like that would surely kill her.
