I used to be a voracious buyer. I forced (and I mean by hook or by crook) myself to stop cold turkey for a year, and now I dare say, the fervor has passed. I have an unnatural amount of make up just sitting there because I find it all but impossible to enjoy it all. DUMB situation to be in, specially with the price of things steadily rising. No Ma'am. Not in this economy! I have lots of things I thought would be the be all and end all and ended up just looking pretty on my shelf. I have one of the Danessa Myricks lightwork palettes, can't remember if it's II or III but at any rate, stupidly expensive for me and yet, there it sits. Beautiful and untouched for the mot part.

I love this video idea. I have a much smaller collection but I absolutely have palettes that fit into these 2 categories.

I like that you did show your expectation vs what are the ones you reach for. I bought the Natasha Denona Sunset palette a year or two ago thinking it would be my favorite go to warm neutral palette but actually if I want that warm neutral look I go for my Melt Gemini with a special single indie shadow (cause I have so many) or my ND Bronze palette. I actually did a low buy last year and only bought 5 palettes! I was so impressed with myself because the previous year I bought a lot. And then at the end of the year I did my first big declutter. And while I kept 80 palettes lol I made sure they were palettes I do reach for or still need to get use out of that provide me variety to keep myself from buying something similar but new this year.

I LOVE your earrings. I always liked green, but I never thought it would be a FAVORITE. The green palettes in my collection get more use than the others. Also, when cool tones came back around, I was like “I should get a cool toned palette, and then I realized I have rows of cool tones in my other palettes and that’s really all I need lol.

Yes!! I almost always put the thing I’m wanting in my cart and come back a couple times over a few weeks. If I still feel excited about it I’ll order it. I’d say probably 80% of the time I don’t order it. New is fun and exciting but what I have WAS fun and exciting. That’s entirely why I started my channel (that and to maybe make some friends) because we were excited about the bits we have. It’s a matter of finding the excitement for it again… even when nobody else is “talking” about it. I really enjoy your videos!!

It's interesting that you preferred Surge over Blends. I sold all my colorful BB palettes, I only kept All Done up. I was only using the colors as eyeliner, so I decluttered them. I also sold all my Natasha Denona palettes. Her palettes almost always have duds, the colors are not that good for me, and I can't justify the price for imperfect palettes. That all said, my fav from her was Glam, but for that kind of finish I'm better off buying Sydney Grace palettes. Same metallic satins as in Glam, super easy to blend mattes, and more affordable.

Great video, I have done the same thing as well. I do the "omg, this palette is perfect for me!" And then it's meh. Natasha Denona Love was like that. And the Viseart Warm Mattes palette is my everyday, fix any look palette.

My version of the Mario quad is the ND Mini My Dream palette. It's almost exactly the same except it has a dark brown in it, which I use a ton because I love a very dark lower lashline. I inherited Ethereal eyes from my mom when she got I Need a Nude and picked up Glam a while ago, and together these three are all the neutrals I ever need (+Blend Bunny Dollhouse)

I'm frustrated that ND midi palettes are redundant in themselves 👀 every single midi palette outside Zendo and Pastel is really an 8 to 10 pan. Pick a color and you'll find one or two same looking one🙄 you don't ever get 15 different shades. So they're even more expensive than we think and wasted space too. Imagine having actually curated sleeker 10 pans for a lower price

I though Natasha Denona Bronze was going to be my favorite palette, then when that one wasn't, My Dream. The reality was instead that my favorite palette ended up being Sydney Grace Be Mine.

I love your thought process on buying palettes. I'm holding out on the new Nomad just to prove I can wait to order it. I have a time limit I need to wait to purchase .

That's a great strategy! I find that when i make myself wait a bit, a lot of the time my desire for the item goes away.

Last year I wanted to figure out my favorite brand for eyeshadows, and it turned out to be Sydney Grace. The ease of use, and the metallic satin fomula is so feminine, delicate, and just plain flattering on me; I fall in love every time I use the palettes. The point of this exercise was to not buy from any other brand again, but I find myself liking lots of things that are launching 😱. I guess I know my no. 1 spot, and I know that I dont want to buy again from Natasha Denona, Viseart, Makeup Revolution, the Creme Shop, and perhaps Unearthly & BB. I also learned that what I like the most are romantic colors, and that monotone, super neutral palettes are not for me and neither are rainbow ones. It's very boring and the latter, unwearable.

Such a good video Kara. I love red as a clothing color. I ck’d out my closet and it’s mostly green & blue 🤦🏻♀️, seriously. What is this crazy nonsense? 😅 ps: I’m so glad to see you filming more. I adored you and your content before your gb surgery and still do. This old gal in the US thinks you’re awesome darling girl. 🥰

I keep thinking buying neutrals will turn me into a neutral girlie, but it doesn't. At the same time, my Sugarpill Fun Size palettes, 9 pan matte rainbow palettes, don't get opened. I'll rather go reach for 5 big palettes with an actual color story to grab essentially the same shades.

I have started cutting down on eyeshadow purchases last year... I definitely have a lot of palettes I only bought because of hype. I'm trying to give myself a push and sell some on Depop or Vinted. Start with the palettes I sure know I won't use 😅 I'm not for big dramatic declutters as I would make mistakes but definitely want to become able to let things I don't love go. So I was thinking putting these items I'm sure on in a separate box and go from there. Maybe put a few things up for sale

@tedoymisojos10 ай бұрын
Cold brew is really pretty; its also very boring. 3 browns in the same color family, and one sparkly neutral topper. That's it... but quads are not for me.

Im not buying anymore ND unless something is as good as the Metropolis palette
@KaraChapman10 ай бұрын
I've skipped out on her last several releases as I find her palettes have enough overlap that I don't need them all and they aren't always consistent (looking at you, Zendo).

I'm not buying any more ND period. Her $65 palettes always have duds. I can't accept that at the price point.
