Nudity is not freedom, nor is modesty imprisonment. The fact that women are walking these busy streets is actually a good sign, because in most parts of Pakistan, women do not even leave the house. In the posher areas of town (Clifton, Defense, Bahria) you will see plenty of women, most of them without a hijab. Karachi is probably the most polarised city in the world; it's the only place you will see student protests with transgender flags in one district and banners praising jihadists in another district. Karachi was the only city in Pakistan that backed Fatimah Ali Jinnah's campaign (God rest her soul) before Dictator Ayub Khan had her mysteriously murdered. And we were the only city in Pakistan that protested against Dictator Zia ul Haq's imposition of Sharia on a national scale.

And ironically, about 11 years ago, Karachi held the largest women's rally in Asia with half a million female participants. That was a bittersweet era, when roughly half of the city's population pledged loyalty to a secular, liberal party, which was probably also the largest mafia in the world at that time, the MQM. The MQM gained popularity among the Muhajirs, who are the most affluent ethnic group in the country; we form a plurality in Karachi (~40%) and a minority (~7%) in Pakistan. Soon enough, the Pakistani military attempted to eliminate MQM with "Operation Cleanup", but the massacres of MQM party workers in the 90s only ended up making the MQM more popular and Muhajirs who once denounced fascism were now advocating for it. You cannot blame us. We watched our city slowly get destroyed by rural migrants, refugees and extremists. But eventually, the MQM lost popularity for its anti-nationalist rhetoric. I still hold the belief that some cultures are superior to others, but that doesn't excuse anti-nationalism. The US drone strikes over in the North forced us to sympathise with the Pakhtuns (from Pakistan and Afghanistan) we once despised. And ever since the War on Terror, Pakistan's middle class is actually now more religious than its working class, and most of Pakistan's middle class is concentrated in Karachi.

You have shown the real picture of Karachi, as I witnessed last year when I was there. I didnt have time to show Karachi as you did.. But trust me its not Karachi IT IS Karachi where people from across the border (Afghanistan) and locals from KPK have turned Karachi upside down. They have occupied Karachi properties, streets, parks and mountains and are paying 0 taxes.... KARACHITIES are suffering and paying for them.... MAY GOD SAVE KARACHI....

Karachi was a great city before partition and even afterward for some time. I don't see a place to stand now. It's like our Old Delhi roads. I was born in Chandigarh and there's no way I could cope with the noise and traffic and population in such places. I love to see old pics and videos of Karaxhi, not this!
