I have been dying to find more in depth videos of karakuri boxes for inspiration! Many American puzzle makers forget the spirit of novelty and instead rush for difficult mechanisms without spirit or soul. Even the top names, puzzlers, if you know, you know, don't come close to the level of human touch you get with karakuri. It doesn't take much to find out why. It all starts with the creators! 😉

I love the 3-drawers one! Are the boxes connected by magnets?

I guess their style doesn't use any nails or magnets. when you drug lowest box out, next one slides down and conects to the lower one with hook which they have each other. that's why the 4 boxes pop out smoothly. it's Japanese smart style. at last, it's interesting that the work has 4 boxes nonetheless it looks having only 3 boxes.
