I must have watched 10 hours of mind numbingly boring videos of soldering techniques, all of which failed to cover advanced and artful technique, then I stumble upon this gem. My fear is gone, I will make mistakes and learn from them ... and then I'll come back and watch this video again! Beautiful work! Thanks for the inspiration!

I have not attempted to do any soldering of stained glass in 40+ years so taking a 'refresher' course and this is a very fine example of 'How To'. Thanks to Karin for showing me your excellent tecquinique.

This is the best video I've EVER seen on soldering stained glass! Your techniques are amazing and you have solved all of the difficulties I continued to have on my windows! Thank you so much! I've been a glass artist for over 35 years and until now, I've never seen the process of soldering shown to be so easy and smartly done. Also, I loved your birds that you made, beautiful and great work

Me too. I have made at least 50 lamps and mirror wall hangings, and I never got it to look this nice. I mean, they looked good to me and other folks but this style raises it to a new level.

Karainz, you are an amazing artist. I enjoy the patterns and work you create. I am presently in my second school for stained glass and no one has taught me to lay a bead as you have done in your tutorials. My masters say my work is really very good...so what they are really saying is you Karainz, have taught me well. Please continue with KZbin presentations and I will follow you to the moon............ I want to do glass like you do.. Your presentations are so relaxing, peaceful in a calming way. A nice way to learn. Cate

I like how you have coiled your solder bar into an upright posture, sitting and ready for when you just want to pick up a bead - hands-free. In general your touch is light and steady. "it's not a race!" you say. It's kind of relaxing watching you work.

Everything you said was necessary to know and it really teaches the right way of soldering, I like the attention to detail, the time you apply to heating the solder, the added piece at the end of the leaf for strength and the clarity of the video. You saved me $280 on the lessons, but I will take some anyway and surprise the teacher with my added knowledge. Thanks. I will post my first work when I/m done..

I just stumbled across your video and decided to watch. Every time I'm in Lowe's or Home Depot, I walk past the soldering irons and think about getting one just to try something like this. Everybody knows that I crochet, and if there's a gift coming, it's likely to be a crocheted piece. But I'd love to have a skill in some other area as well. Now that I've seen your beautiful work, I believe I want to try. I've read the other comments, and I see that you've answered my initial questions. I know this is an old video, but still, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you so much. Also, thanks for mentioning that you sped up the video. I felt less helpless when I read that. lol Ninja edit: I just visited your website, and am even more motivated. Thirty years of experience at the time of that writing, no? I think I'd better pay close attention to your video instructions. Kudos on your beautiful work.

Thank you so much. That was really helpful. I recently retired from 40 years of pottery, had stained glass sitting in a box, and dug it out. I'd tried it a couple of decades ago so saying I'm rusty wouldn't cover it. Never proficient but love it. Now, after watching your tutorials I feel more confident.

The hanger is very important (as you've already discovered) I always use fine brazing rod (buy it from a welders supply store) Bend it with needle nose pliers to form a shape like a number 9. The leg goes along a bead of solder so as to anchor it deeply into the panel. Check out this clip at 11:00 min's you'll see exactly what to do... :-)

Stained glass is on my list and I love how you soldered your piece in comparison to how I've seen others do it. Thank you so much for your reply. I am using a Welder 80 so I don't think it is too hot. I think my cutting just sucks LOL. I drew my own design this time and it is full on tight corners and very little pieces that look like they should fit but no such luck. I have yet to do my first stained glass. I was just searching for information on the subject. I've done a lot of soldering with electrical circuitry and also copper plumbing and there is definitely an art to it even when you don't necessarily have to make it look pretty. Your use of the thicker solder rods I think is optimal to the thinner rolled version. What you do here is beautiful and you do well in demonstrating your technique. I will bookmark this video for future reference for sure. THANX!!

Traditionally lead caned windows are used in large items. There is also reinforcing tape available which is inserted into the lead cane edge during panel construction. This hard brass tape is put across edges that are judged as weak and need stiffening. Keep in mind that most of a windows stiffness is provided by the grouting, so doing an excellent job of grouting with a proper grouting mixture is very important aspect of any quality panel.
