That scream, called a kiai, is deeply rooted in martial arts tradition, dating back to the time of the Samurai. It is used to focus one's physical and mental energies, startle your opponent, and it can be applied to draw attention when a martial artist requires help in a real combat situation.
Such smooth movement... those kicks were so controlled, and the blocks, they make the whole thing look effortless, almost like a dance.

What no female karate black belts practicing their highly toned self defence techniques using amazing karate skills to beat the men ! and show why women are absolutely excellent at karate, powerful, focused, inspirational, and lethal ! showing the men how it’s done, don’t you agree ?

Tell that to every Muay Thai striking based MMA guy that Machida and GSP have beat.(Shotkan and Kyo) All arts have their range in wich they work as long as they are trained seriously and spend time sparring. Most Americans opinion of Karate is brought about because of the McDojo black belts. A real Karateka is never to be taken lightly.

There are wonderful skillful karate techniques on display here. However if I may be picky, why would multiple attackers: 1. Shout before they attack. 2. Wait for their turn to attack; and 3. Fail to employ multiple assaults? Seems to me on all these attacks a simple 'stand-up and fold your arms' would do as a defensive response. IMHO kata was designed to practice defensive responses against HAPV of which few of these attacks were.
@naqashsiddique124911 жыл бұрын
@asdfasdfasdfasdf284. Really? I don't see how we can see that it is ineffective against almost all other styles. Shotokan (in fact, Karate in general) trains the hands and the feet rendering it more versatile than pure boxing or Taekwondo . Having said that, it's good to mix and match different styles to capitalise on their unique facets.

AbaKxi 2D hahahaha i mean that with the kiai there is a contraction in the body, they eliminate the dirty energy while breathing.

Abakxi 2D So when weightlifters pick up something heavy they grunt, sometimes so do tennis players when they hit the ball. The yell ur hearing is the karate version of that. Also as an added bonus, it can scare ppl that want to fight u.
