Tbh I think Teyen might just be my favorite deathcore vocalist. While yeah Dickie Allen, Alex Terrible, CJ McCreery, and Will Ramos are great and bombastic, I find Teyen able to be impressive without stealing the attention from the rest of the band and the actual nuance of the composition. I’m able to appreciate how dynamic he is as a vocalist, while still managing to enjoy the storytelling and intricacies in the songwriting and have fun with the heavy riffs and breakdowns. While Allen, Alex Terrible, McCreery, and Ramos may be bigger show stoppers, I find Teyen to be the superior artist. No disrespect to the other aforementioned vocalists. All amazing in their own rights (I’m very much excited for the new Lorna Shore EP 🤘). I just love Black Tongue so much. 🙂 Unrelated note: I relate to the appreciation of meditative music, which is why I love sludge/stoner/drone metal. Swans is also always a fantastic example of meditative music. I love the title track of Gaza’s “No Absolutes In Human Suffering”, which is basically a 4 minute song of the vocalist yelling the name of the album with a heavy sludge metal riff. I eat that shit up.
