Bob thank you very much for sharing your videos and layout. I retired in 1998 from BNSF however I hired out with the Soo Line back in Oct 1969. I have many fond memories of all the people I worked with on the Soo Line and still hear from many of them. +++

Mr. Rivard, you have captured the Soo beautifully! My Dad, George Nall Sr. was 3rd trick operator for the Soo, At Schiller Park, Il. way back in ‘77. I was in college by then, but Dad and I would go to the yard once in awhile since I, like you, would run to see trains in my childhood Chicago neighborhood Beverly. (Check it out on Google Maps sometime and you’ll see why.) Anyway Dad was a lifelong railroader Harding started at the Rock in 1937. I come to it late in my career, working for Metra since June ‘17. What a pleasure!

Ben, you need to start thinking abt the future of the layout once you’re gone. Maybe donate it to some group or museum that’ll keep it running.

The original Soo Line started in 1883 as the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad. The railroad merged with the Wisconsin Central Railway in 1961 to form the Soo Line Railroad. The railroad acquired the Milwaukee Road in 1986 before its absorption into the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1990.
