This is by far the best video on youtube that shows Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's entire scoring ability. From his skyhook to his baseline dunks, this center was the best to ever play in my opinion. I grew up watching the skyhook during the showtime era, he was the anchor of the Lakers half-court offense. Thanks for making this video, I know it was made from several video clips from past games.

I am a huge Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fan and have been since I was a little kid. Nobody could stop the guy. Absolutely the best Center to ever play basketball. His defense was awesome as well. I often think of how well he would do against current NBA players. With today's offense so spread out due to the 3-pt shot, Kareem would dominate even more in the half court offense. Keep in mind the majority of the clips in this comp show an aged Kareem in LA, where he began to rely mostly on the skyhook to score. His years with the Bucks had him scoring with everything from floaters, midrange pull-ups, finger rolls, fadeaways within 15 feet, to his potent turnaround jumper.

@@manny4552 Wilt could stop it. So could Nate Thurmond. Only a couple others could. Bill Walton being another. Everybody else including Parish, Hakeem, Sampson, Moses Malone, Ewing and so on needed a double team to stop him and it usually did not work. The issues with the skyhook is that he could do it with left hand and right and the other is if you jumped up to stop it he would up and under you for a easier 2. Kareem was not a 1 trick pony. His arsenal of moves Dunk Skyhook either hand Up and under Jump shot His counters made the skyhook even more unstoppable.

Let's not forget that Kareem (Lew Alcindor) was the greatest college player of all -time. He was arguably the greatest high school player of all time. He has a legitimate case for greatest NBA player of all time. He was a great individual player, a great team player and a great leader. He had a well rounded game. He was beyond great at scoring, great rebounder in his younger days, great shot blocker, very good FT shooter (especially for a center), and one of the best passing big men of all-time. He took care of himself physically and was able to compete, with success, against men much younger than him for most of his career. No one else, not even MJ, can be associated with all of these attributes.

Without a doubt, Kareem is hands down one of the ALL-TIME greats, not just the NBA but, in the history of BASKETBALL!! It's asinine to say anything else. But if you're gonna start trying to say how he "dominated" Olajuwon. Let me think back to that time... I recall it being an extremely backbreaking ordeal for Kareem to carry that whole team on his shoulders. I mean, he had to play with such ordinary talent like Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Jamaal Wilkes, Bob McAdoo. Hmm... But oh wait! They're not ordinary talent. In fact, ALL of them are in the HOF! But wait again! They all played on the same Lakers team, at the same time. Counting Kareem, that's FIVE Hall of Famers together on the same team. Wow! Give that level of greatness to Hakeem and he would've destroyed the entire league. And even without it, that "young" Hakeem beat Kareem and the Lakers in the 1986 Western Conference Finals. I say again, this is NOT any disrespect for Kareem! But when talking about him vs. Hakeem Olajuwon, let's not go overboard please.

Born Lew Alcindor Two decades long between Milwaukee and Los Angeles, Jabbar's career began in Harlem. Lew (who converted to Islam in 1971) was born in New York on April 16, 1947, two years after the end of the Second World War. An only son, ultra-protected by his mother but severely shaken by a very strict father. The young Alcindor throws himself headlong into basketball to escape the family environment as quickly as possible. We know that in recent years, he has turned to yoga and martial arts, while meditation allowed him to manage stress before matches. The 1985 Final against the Celtics perfectly illustrates the way Kareem approached his meetings at that time. Ridiculed by Robert Parish during Game 1, passed to posterity under the name of "Memorial Day Massacre" (the Lakers take a correction 148-114), Abdul-Jabbar must be satisfied with 12 points and 3 rebounds. During the two days of break preceding Match 2, he follows a specific preparation, at the same time of the matches, by embarking on a real marathon focused on the work of an interior player. In this Game 2, Parish no longer knows where he lives: Abdul-Jabbar plants 30 points on his head, grabs 17 rebounds, delivers 8 assists and counters three times. Lakers win 109-102. Needless to say, the L.A. pivot is decisive not only in this game but also in the series, won 4-2 by the Californians. The MVP title is for him. Moreover, it is always this 1985 Final that he highlights. A final won at Boston Garden, which had never happened to him in his career. The previous year, the Celtics had sent the Lakers back to their beloved studies, like so many other times during the reign of Bill Russell.

Thank you for this vid. IMHO Kareem is the greatest. What's scary, is that it's even a debate cause of 3 things. 1. Lucious Allen gets hurt before the 74 NBA Finals they lose in 7. 2. KAJ hurts his foot in game 5 when he dropped 40 in the 80 finals(still should have been the MVP). 3. Tragic Magic 84 finals. MJ was fortunate that he or any key player never got hurt during any of the Finals runs(Only Scottie's back in 98 but he was still on the court).

I don't think he's the greatest at all, and i will tell you why. 1st He's not greatest winner, Michael Jordan and Bill Russell got more rings. 2nd He was not that athletic, Hakeem Olajuwon surpassed and dominated him (although i agree that Jabbar was too old and Hakeem was young), Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell were also better athletes, they were better rebounders and shot blockers than Kareem, and Wilt was even a better scorer and averaged more assits than Jabbar... Wilt was a great passer, but he didn't give more assists than Kareem because of his talent, but because he was the most dominant player of all time. Wilt in 1967 or 68 playoffs averaged 24points 24 rebounds and 9 assists, that's unsurpassed. Nobody can do that in any era, even in that era, except for Wilt. But i agree that in some way Kareem yes he's the greatest, i think he's the most gifted player to ever play the game. Even Jordan or Wilt weren't better basketball players than Kareem, but better athletes. Kareemwon 6 MVP and 6 rings in two different teams, that's un matched. Last thing. Haters and basketball illiterated always dismiss Wilt saying that he played against 5'9 players, but that's not true at all. 1st of all, Wilt Scored 60 points and grabbed 55 rebounds on Bill Russell. Russell was 6'11 and he's arguably the greatest defender of the game ever. 2nd, Kareem didn't play against taller guys than him, specially during the 70's, he used to play about shorter guys than him. In fact, players like Nate Thurmond or Wilt himself, knew how to stop him. Kareem averaged 43 % against Thurmond career. This means that Thurmond was the guy how best know how to stop Kareem 's game. Even Kareem admitted than Thurmond was his toughest guy to play against.

In 1989-90 the NBA expanded by 4 teams. In 1995 by 2 more. Great try to disqualify all the other players from the G.O.A.T conversation but...not so great after all. Wilt Kareem MJ and Bird have great cases, everyone for different reasons. None of them or any other player is "easily" anything. MJ is the most celebrated no doubt beacause of the era he played in.

Artis Gilmore was only 240 lbs as a rookie, but hitting the weight room like a madman for years, he was transformed to 345 lbs of shredded muscle later on in his career. Artis Gilmore was MUCH MUCH stronger than guys like Shaq or Anthony Mason. Wilt with his 550 lbs bench press is probably the only guy on NBA history who's stronger than Gilmore. 7'2" barefoot Gilmore also had a 36" Vertical. Kareem was so good that he made a monster like Artis Gilmore seem human.

Kareem mentions in a video that he doesn't remember his Sky Hook getting blocked by someone that was guarding him. And what he means is someone that guards him in the post body to body. There are two videos, one with Wilt blocking his shot twice (a right handed and a left handed) in its apex and another video in which Sampson blocks a left handed hook with his left hand. Both of those players were studying the ball's movement and not Kareem's movement and they weren't guarding Kareem body to body.
