Kareem Abdul Jabbar - Vintage NBA (Basketball Documentary)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, Jr., April 16, 1947) is a retired American professional basketball player. He is the leading scorer in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his career, Abdul-Jabbar was a record six-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), a record 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. A member of six NBA championship teams, Abdul-Jabbar twice was voted NBA Finals MVP. In 1996, he was named one of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
In college at UCLA, he played on three consecutive national championship teams, and his high school team won 71 consecutive games. During his NBA career, he played with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. At the time of his retirement, Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA's all-time leader in points scored, games played, minutes played, field goals made, field goal attempts, blocked shots, defensive rebounds, and personal fouls. In 2008, ESPN named him the "greatest player in college basketball history."Others, including Pat Riley and Isiah Thomas, have argued that he is the greatest basketball player of all time.

william acevedo Yea I agree he couldn't be much better at what he did.. But personally I don't beleive in comparing bigs with guards.. Therefore to me imo guards simply r more skilled & complete players, as scorers especially.. So Kobe & MJ r the GOATS imo then Magic & Bird, then I'd go Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, Wilt, Malone

27:00 -- Damn Jerry West was good. that guy was a scoring machine. Jabbar had an unstoppable shot, even for Wilt. It's a massive job to stop a 33 game winning streak against the 1970's version of Shaq and Kobe, but Jabbar's team didi it. Think how good that makes them.

I feel fortunate to have started my love affair with basketball in 1968 at the age of 12 -- with Kareem and UCLA -- with the NCAA finals. Oh man! Everyday in the morning news I would cut out every article about him and started a a grand collection of scrap books of his career! I continued through my senior year in high school and me playing like him. In history we have Booker T. Washington, well my nickname became "Hooker T. Washington" because that was my favorite shot. My hero 'til the day I die! He changed the life of this skinny white kid forever!

To have witness KAREEM and showtime lakers in 86-89 in my sixth. Seventh grade. I play center in my school. And my fav sig move was the HOOK SHOT. I'm 40 right now. Still playing. A nice tribute, but almost NO mention of Kareem's first NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks. That 1971 team was AT LEAST the equal of the showtime Lakers & probably better. Kareem's first 5 years were with the Bucks & were his most dominant. The footage of the Laker - Bucks game showed that. His Bucks teams were awesome & everybody seems to forget that he even played in Milwaukee. Greatest player of all time!

He won one NBA title without Magic and shot 46% against Wilt in 28 games. Wilt was old but still shot 58% against Kareem and averaged around 19 rebounds a game. Against the great Willis Reed Kareem won 6 and Reed won 15 despite only playing 99 games his last three years due to a bad knee. The Bucks won 304 to the Knicks 266 and yet Reed dominated Jabbar.

I mean Wilt was #1 guy on one championship, he was either 2nd or 3rd best on the team by the 72 championship. Kareem on the other hand was still the #1 guy for at least 2 of those Magic titles and was the second best 2 other years. But ultimately it’s comparing two all time GOATs. You can just easily make an argument for one as the best of all time as you can for the other. But if there’s one thing Kareem had over Wilt it’s he was just simply more clutch at the biggest pressure moments. I don’t think that can be debated.

Here are the actual numbers of Wilt Chamberlain vs Kareem Abdul Jabbar Head to Head for their first 2 seasons (1969/70 & 70/71). Note: Three days after their 1st meeting in 1969, Wilt got injured and required major knee surgery. They only played each other once that season. Wilt is aged 33-35. Kareem is 22-24. In all but the first game, Wilt is a few years past his prime and coming back from a major knee injury. Kareem is healthy, but still a year or two away from his prime. Old man Wilt does just fine against young Buck (pun intended) Jabbar. Wilt almost always shoots well over 50% while holding Kareem to under 40% shooting five different times. Kareem ain't no 6'5" white guy. I would put Kareem as goat if it was not for Wilt whos numbers embarrass everyone and owns the NBA record book and that's not even counting his blocks that were not counted until he retired coincidence lol. Harvey pollock counted them though and he had more than Russell and Mark Eaton the goat by far is Wilt. If Wilt did not stop scoring and shooting like the coaches asked and played 6 year longer like Kareem 21 years verses Wilts 13 full seasons and one part he would of had 60,000 career points !! All hail the real Goat Wilton Norman Chamberlain!!!

Kareem sucked he just hung around long enough that was the only reason he had a record scoring career. Wilt had over 4000 points in a season no one else has goat Wilt the Stilt!!

Kareem with Milwaukee bucks in his prime. Took it to Chamberlain... Watch the old videos they show it... Chamberlain frustrated as hell. He dominated the game until Kareem showed.. one of the reasons he retired

It's weird kareem looks like younger now when he gets retired. He looks older while he's on the league.

Competative sports is exhausting and with the NBA schedule there were few rest days. Probably had more time for recovery after retiring.

Not true many were as tall or taller Wilt was the same size and slapped that skyhook down many times and this was a 11 years older than Kareem! Wilt that had just suffered and knee career ending injury in his prime would block everyone of them and when Kareem faced Wilt he missed more than he made.
