It doesn't have to be that way. You are sad only because you choose to be sad. "Don't worry, be happy," is the right answer, and in case you don't want to take Bobby McFerrin's word for it, you can also get that same advice from the Bible. "Therefore do not be worried for the 'morrow, what you will eat, where you will sleep, or with what you shall be clothed. For which of you, by worrying, can add a single minute to his life? Each day has enough trouble of its own, and anyway the Lord knows you need all these things."

You're right about the drumming. Normally to be good enough someone has to start early and be great by high school. She was a natural drummer that started when she was already in high school, played successfully for 18 months without any lessons, and took lessons for only 18 months to be able to play, incredibly well, at a professional level on TV and at the Hollywood Battle of the Bands, of all places. Same thing for singing. Normally a great singer will be recognized in childhood and grow from there. Karen was different. Richard also, did not sing at a high level until college. College is not normally a place where superstar singers are birthed.

Not as much as you like to believe. First off, even if it is a strong composition, it didn't survive Bacharach's butchering arrangement. What you really mean is that the #1 Carpenters hit is a perfect, timeless record. But consider this: Richard reinvented it on his recent record "Richard Carpenter's Piano Songbook" to incredibly great effect, and you need to check that out.

Great post Michael. It is the first half of the programme, but very accurate for a change. Most stuff about Karen really is about what people thought Karen should be like and not really Karen herself. Wish you had the rest of this as, like I am saying, it is very rare to actually have something about Karen that is actually about Karen and not what others thought Karen was like. An awesome part was when Paul Williams said that the song Rainy Days and Mondays was written about his mom. Karen sang songs others wrote and Karen's singing was actually based on Karen hearing her voice and making her voice sound a certain way, and not based on emotion or personal experiences or such. Karen actually told me that she would try to block out personal stuff while singing as it would cause her to forget the lyrics or such. Excellent post and much appreciated.
@JewandGreek3 жыл бұрын
The guy who wrote Little Girl Blue said that he believed you could hear her pain in her songs, but of course she wasn't a songwriter so he was trying to read something into her artistic interpretation or something. I figured that was a bunch of hooey. You just pretty much confirmed that.

It is a tragedy that she was led to believe she was not a beautiful woman. She may not have succumbed to dressing trashy to get attention. She had the shiniest of hair and the biggest eyes. She had a great smile. So much of her was pretty . Why her mother was cruel to her makes no sense. After she was made a lead singer and she was changing her hair and clothes she was even more stunning and CLASSY. I just cannot fathom how she suffered. Anyone who brought that much joy to the world DESERVED BETTER!

Her mother wasn't cruel to her she just wasn't affectionate to her feelings.
@guywill7875 Жыл бұрын
@@countquackula8539 not cruel? who do you think destroyed her self esteem?
@countquackula8539 Жыл бұрын
@guywill7875 Her mom wasn't very affectionate and critical of her, but again, it was not cruel. If her mother was that terrible of a person, Karen would've avoided her completely. The anorexia, failed marriage, and failed solo career were not her mother's fault. Karen, despite being a great singer, wasn't strong enough to fight her demons. Even her brother Richard, who was closest and loved her the most, has stated his mother was like him, just not very affectionate people.
@TheLarryBrownАй бұрын
@@countquackula8539Well the failed marriage was her mother's fault because Karen wanted to back out before the wedding and her mother pushed her through it, of course you could say that it's Karen's fault for not sticking to her guns. You say the anorexia was not Agnes' fault but popular opinion differs. The failed solo album, ok, that was not Agnes' fault.
@countquackula8539Ай бұрын
@TheLarryBrown But see, that was Karen's problem she was too weak to stand up to her mother or anyone. She was very insecure. She could've easily said no to her mom and the marriage. She was a grown woman, famous, and well off. I'm not marrying him, and that's that. What's her mother going to do?
