Early days of treating eating disorders. Karen rather fell to the psychiatric community not knowing quite enough or how lethal the disorders can be. Treatment and support is MUCH better now (even mid-plague) and most folks with such disorders can overcome them. Karen's suffering and her leaving this world raised awareness and urgency, and saved lives.

It's great to see one beautiful soul acknowledge another, as Jamel aka Jamal acknowledges Karen Carpenter here. She was a hugely talented star, and a brave and wonderful spirit. Sad to see how her eating disorder had clearly taken hold here - anorexia killed her in February 1983, aged just 32. As Jamal rightly says, this footage shows her in her happy place and her joy at her own musical talent is infectious. The stress and sadness her fame burdened her with is well known, so it's good to be reminded that it also brought her satisfaction and some incredible highs. Life is not black and white, but full of nuance and it is through the grey areas that we see the fullest picture, and get closest to the truth. Great video my friend, a pleasure to see you giving attention to this magical star, taken from us far too young.

Sister had bad-ass chops. Never a question. 💜💜💜💜💜💥 The truth is, yes: She ALWAYS considered herself a drummer who could also sing pretty well (not the other way 'round or anything similar!). It's true that: the idea that the label and management wanted her out from behind the drum kit ...was a massive error on their part and, in essence, yes: One could say that pulling her out from behind the kit was, really, what killed her (a big part of it). @@whatdothlife4660 Would Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson's passing game still impress you the same if he was throwing a laser-guided GPS football that went wherever he wanted it to every time it left his hands? It's like that. People would rightly remind you that guys like Joe Montana and Dan Marino had to actually be good at throwing the football, without technological aid, in order to win games 'back in the day'. Musical technology has become a substitute for musical talent in the 21st century. Recording artists are actually able to hide the fact that they can't do what you think they can do, thanks to modern technology. None of today's pop stars would still be able to sing around the campfire the way they sound on the radio. Many of us are old enough to remember a time when this would not be the case. OK boomer? I recall MMC tv show clips where little Cubby would be featured on a drum solo and he could tear it up as a lad. Karen Carpenter was a fine drummer, and, IMHO, one of the greatest female vocalists recorded. her three-octave range and masterful use of vibrato and silky smoothy delivery makes her one of the all-time great singers.
