33 years old here, and I grew up listening to my mom's record collection - lots of Karen Carpenter music, since Mom owns everything they recorded - except Karen's final album and the unreleased solo album she made *with her own finances* while Richard was in drug recovery. Several of the songs were released years later, under the Carpenters name and label, despite a much different sound from their traditional recordings. Every time I hear a KC song, I stop what I'm doing and crank up the volume. RIP, Karen Carpenter 🕯️

If you listen to most of the songs she recorded, they are all about loss, tragedy, depression. She sang with such emotion because she was living the songs she sang. Karen stated in an interview the song she most closely related to was I Need To Be In Love and the line "I'm wide awake at 4am without a friend in sight".

The aspect about Karen Carpenter that I admire the most what that she was able to be both a phenomenal singer and drummer, which as mentioned was rare for a female artist during her time. It's just unfortunate that she was notable to overcome anorexia in the end. Well, I'm grateful that her brother, Richard and his family are doing reasonably well today. One summer day in 1970, My neighbor ran across the street, rang the bell and popped in the "Close to You" cassette. After a week, she finally insisted I return it. I was a member of the Carpenters' Fan Club and saw them twice in concert in Chicago. February 4th, 1983, I returned home from having my wisdom teeth extracted, only to hear the sad news. Sir, you did an excellent job putting together this comprehensive, accurate, and sensitive video.

In 2007, I was 16 and I first heard Karen's voice. I knew her pain instantly before I knew of her heart attack due to the complications of the anorexia nervosa. She is one of the only singers where I knew what she felt her loneliness. May she rest in peace. She was such a helper even telling Richard he had to go to rehab for his barbituate addiction and touring halting. I wish the same was given to her regardless of the fact we did not know enough about anorexia. She needed more. Many friends later recall they did not know how sad she was but I knew and I was just a teen.

@karasays01: I think part of the problem was Richard himself, I knew a friend whose husband was a recording engineer for A&M Records; Richard was the producer and he demanded perfection, he took up so much of Karen's time that she had zero personal life

I contribute my overcoming Anorexia to Karen. We both suffered about the same time, but sad her outcome was beyond tragic. I am forever grateful that she paved the way for my treatment and full recovery 🙏🏻 I miss her and wish her well beyond into eternity 🌌🌠

How did you recover? How long did it take?
@debdo1960Ай бұрын
@@eunoiavision7567 First....I had excellent an excellent team of doctors who believed in me and worked tirelessly together. What usually was a two week stay in patient ended up being 3 months as they knew that anything less would result in me dying. I did an additional 1.5 years out patient as well as intense therapy on the outside with a private therapist and psychiatrist....and my internist. Sadly, that program has since shut down. I'm not sure what if any program has taken place as my treatment began in 1991. It took about 20+ years to overcome Anorexia/Bulimia. I had to push myself to comply which was a very emotionally painful process, but I was very determined becuz something deep inside was just too tired and I wanted to get better. It was not an easy road. I had my slip ups and plenty of back sliding and wanting to give up and give into the eating disorders. I am forever grateful that my doctors never gave up on me and Richard Carpenter sat on the board associated with my doctors. I am a huge Karen fan since the beginning of their career. Even though Karen lost her battle, she ultimately saved me by bringing awareness and treatment was born out of her loss. I am sad, but truly grateful. Just realize the disease distorts your thinking and if you don't work with your doctors, all the treatments in the world won't help you. I wish for you and all who suffer from Anorexia and or Bulimia to fully recover. My life has had many ups and downs, but that is life. I have been through hell , but my doctors have helped me to obtain better coping skills and plenty of tools to combat those feelings over the years. Hope this helps you or anyone in need of hope and assurance that recovery is possible with hard work and determination. Meet your doctors half way! I always focused on Karen and how her loss gave me the strength to beat what she couldn't (thank you Karen 😊).

It was so sad to lose karen, it makes you think like, her family, especially her brother Richard, must have been so out of it when she died. I think of all the songs the world could have heard from her, had she lived. Karen is at the top of my list of great female singers.

I have been a Carpenter's fan all of my life, and still am. My musical likes span from 1950 to current. Being a music lover, I can count on one hand how many singers have such a gifted voice, and that is over a period of 60 years. Karen's voice and Richard's productions have made the "Carpenters" more than lifetime legends. Her voice and the music will live on forever. She is still missed by many, including me.

She had the voice of an angel. Loved her & still miss her to this day. I have a double CD of their hits which I still listen to. She was a wonderful musician in addition to her vocal talent. Such a terrible loss.

Her voice was Angelic and I could listen to her all day. It’s so sad that she suffered so bad from anorexia I wish she would’ve gotten help with this horrible disease. I’m sure that she would still be singing as beautiful today as she did back in the 70s.

Your doing a good job, I really can't think of anything right now. If u get a chance, look up the video/performance of Richard orchestrating the royal philharmonic to SUPERSTAR. It's really s tear 😢 jerker. Richard, is fragile, but seemingly in total control as pre recorded Karen vocals are heard. I feel for his loss. It has to be alot of "what ifs" that hits him every single day

@@FactsVerseFunny how you keep asking people questions and they don't seem to respond to you. Ok, I'll bite. Since I love most all Carpenters songs it's impossible to name a favorite, and probably 15 or more crowd into my "top 5" slot, if I had to choose just one it would be between two Richard/Bettis compositions, on both of which Richard absolutely kills with his electrifying duet singing: Top of the World and Only Yesterday. I'll take those incredible resonant opening low notes from Karen and say "Only Yesterday."

I have always loved The Carpenters, Karen had a very unique voice, and was also an amazing drummer! I was born in 1961, it was very rare to see a female drummer in the early to mid 1960's, one of the first was Honey Lantree in the group The Honeycombs, they had a hit with "Have I The Right" in 1964! 😊
