8 dollars PLUS the bonus tip Doordash gives now depending on the area and how hot business is ( my friends being doordash drivers before and I rode along and learned how it works now), she had absolutely no right to complain at all. Even if it was a 40 minute drives let’s say it was heavy traffic that day it’s New York, she still had no reason to mad and demanding more she made at least 10 bucks off that delivery with the doordash bonus tip. I’m glad at least Uber Eats has a pickup option now cause these drivers have been hot garbage lately.

It's not. Some of these restaurants make you wait 20-30 minutes. If there's also traffic you pay for your own gas you might only get 1 order and lose money. Carriers also stopped paying a delivery fee that's halfway decwnt. (a 12 minute drive is prolly 1.50.). Since DoorDash doesn’t pay for the drive back to the hotspot you picked the food up at. Make sure you do orders that equal out to at least $1 per mile. It’s a more efficient way to earn money without burning as much gas for low payout orders. My acceptance rating is like 45% though…🤷🏽‍♂️

I had one day of sub par tips and then the one dude at the end of the day tipped 50 bucks because it was so late and so far. As an UberEats delivery driver in the Seattle area: I keep a stack of post-its that I’ve pre-written with “thank you” and once I accept an order: I quickly write the customer’s name all pretty in calligraphy and stick the lil’ thank you note to the bag of food that I then put in an insulated bag to stay safe & warm. More often than not: the customer ends up tipping even more! Because in ANY job: I’m grateful and focus on what little things I can GIVE to delight someone, rather than make it all about what I can get.* *Exception is if I see the projected trip+tip earnings will _cost_ me money by time & mileage, and I politely quietly decline. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️ Especially since I started delivering as just a side gig to pay off debt, but has now become my main gig after losing my 9-5: Yes, it may be hard out here, but having a contentious and vengeful attitude like that only makes life harder. 😔

I forgot to mention that I also write “- Jess” on the bottom of the post-it so the customer knows the note is from me, not the restaurant. 😉 I’ve also gone into my iPhone settings to add Keyboard shortcuts, so it’s easier and faster to communicate other common messages that aren’t already provided by the driver app (like the “I’m on my way” one.) Examples: 1. I type, “tf” which allows the keyboard to auto fill: “Thanks for your patience!” 2. I type, “yo” _(since that type of greeting isn’t part of my everyday vernacular… 😅)_ and the keyboard will auto fill: “Your order isn’t ready yet; I’ll let you know when I’m on my way!” 3. “Yt” will auto fill to “You are one of two deliveries I was assigned.” _(Because even though the app is VERY clear about the driver map tracking and when a driver is handling two deliveries, some customers don’t understand. 🤷🏻‍♀️)_ And then finally, when the customer replies with a usual, “thank you/no worries/great,” I reply with: 4. “mp” which auto fills to, “My pleasure! 😊” 5. And “ib” which auto fills to “Your food is safe & warm in an insulated bag! 😉” (but if it’s something like sushi or ice cream I just edit out the warm part.) 6. “Tp” auto fills to “Trying to find parking... 😅” when i find myself in the downtown metro areas and the customer wants me to deliver to their high rise apartment door step in rush hour traffic, so I end up driving in circles thanks to complicated street parking rules that have resulted in me being towed once. (Never again!) Sorry that’s a lot, but I just like sharing. 😅

But it had, and her services were paid already too. The entire transaction was complete and concluded. That makes it Trespassing with Intent, and Property Theft as much as any meth crook prowling the neighborhood looking for Christmas Delivery Presents. Since she also interacted with the owner at that time, it could be escalated to Intimidation and Robbery. On all the delivery services I’ve used you can change the tip for a good while after the delivery. And I have changed it to be more and to be less based on what happens. One lady fucked my order up so bad(groceries) and also tore up my food and also just threw the bags on my porch and the food spilled out of the bags onto my porch! I took all her tip away. But one lady was crazy quick and everything was perfect and she put the bags on my porch all nice and in the perfect area(which delivery people seem to have an issue with with our porch) that I gave her a bigger tip after. I don’t really do delivery anymore cause it costs so much for delivery and tip that it isn’t worth it to me. We had to do a lot of it when we were quarantined while my husband had covid. I’ve also never liked having to tip…for anything. It feels dirty to me.

I didn’t know that this is something other people also experienced with delivery. When I was 17 I was harassed by a pizza deliver man because my tip wasn’t big enough. I unfortunately didn’t have a job because my parents wouldn’t let me work (academic focus only), but I wanted to use just a bit of the allowance I saved up to get pizza. I got only 1 medium box of pizza and the pizza place is legit 10-15ish minutes from my parents house. I can’t remember the cost of the pizza or how much I tipped but I told the guy to keep the change and he got upset because he said it wasn’t enough and I should give a bigger tip. I was so shocked and embarrassed, so I just said “I’m 17, I don’t work". And he just continued on about how it’s hard out here and that people need to tip better. I was so frazzled and ashamed, I felt responsible for whatever he was going through. Now I actually no longer use food delivery services because of that, sounds dramatic but the feeling of being told your indirectly responsible for someone’s livelihood doesn’t feel good.

I reckon your employers should pay you what your labor is worth rather than relying on tips, theoretically that's how it works over here. That's how it's suppose to be though; Tipping is to show you believe they gave outstanding service, it's a show of support to encourage that kind of higher standard. Somewhere along the line it became normalized that one is just to be expected to tip regardless and taken advantage of by companies to undermine their workers and get away with paying them less than minimum wage even. Some people drive out of there way to take an order. The guy may be 12 minutes away from the restaurant, but she might live 30 minutes away. Plus, there is wait time and traffic to consider. With that said, she would be incredibly stupid if she had to go 30 minutes out of the way to do only one order. If it used up that much of your gas and time, it’s not worth it, decent tip or not. I heard a couple of people who do this will only do it on their days off of their main job, and spend the whole day in a town or city that has frequent and/or big orders.

I've worked delivery, and I've worked as a waiter. Whatever % the tip is, is you ALWAYS say "thank you" and act professionally. Even if you get no tip, don't let it ruin your day as you never know someone's financial situation. If you can't handle the nature of the job, my advice is to work for hourly elsewhere, and avoid any sort of commission-based job in the future. You are entitled to nothing (unless there is an automatic gratuity on the bill). It's not the customer's fault that employers are passing wage expenses off onto the consumer through the tip system. Most states even have what's called a "tip credit", where the employer and the state subsidize a tip earner's hourly wage if they didn't make enough in tips to bring them up to minimum wage. This woman's behavior was disgusting, and she's hurting other tip earners with her behavior. I hope she got fired.

lol, sure $40/hour if you magically get the food beamed into your car and don’t have to first drive to the restaurant, park, go inside and usually wait for the order, go back outside and get in your car, then start driving, which 12 minutes Google Maps time doesn’t account for getting out of the restaurant parking lot nor having to deal with an initial stop light or two before getting onto a main road. And given the look of the sky, the time of day appears to be evening which means more cars on the road and traffic. 40 minutes is very realistic in total time incurred to handle one delivery from accept to drop off. And if the drive from the restaurant to the customer itself was 40 minutes, she spent damn near an hour then for one delivery. I wouldn’t be pleased about it, but I definitely wouldn’t tell the customer I need a bigger tip. That delivery sucked, as most of them do.
