I went on my first princess cruise and out of the four cruise lines that i have traveled Margaritaville at sea, Carnival, and Virgin Voyages. Princess is the first one where another passenger cusses me out.

My favorite way to handle people like this is by asking with a straight face "Are you ok?" usually they are just dumbfounded. Then you say "No, really, are you ok?" usually stops them. How embarrassing for her and her husband.

She’s super brave acting like that right before making a request with guest services to help her with something. I go out of my way to roadblock people like her. And I go out of my way to assist people like you. You get what you give in this world.

That is a very unhappy woman. It's not even about the Elite line; she is just very unhappy with her life, and maybe with herself. I feel sorry for her.

I’ve actually had a very similar experience at guest services while waiting in the elite line. There was a fairly long regular line and when I walked up to the elite line, a woman was giving me the stink eye and said ‘the lines over here’ in a rude way so I just replied ‘not when you’re elite!’ She was probably really mad after that but she didn’t say anything else. I do think the crew should be intervening more though when guests get out of hand, start swearing, throwing insults, etc. I’m sorry you had this experience. It isn’t the norm but there definitely are some Karen’s out there.

Princess guest services should have stepped in- they should not have let another guest abuse you. Same thing happened to me on carnival- but she threatened me, enough so that i let her go ahead of me.

Wow - we have been on a lot of Cruises, mostly Princess and Royal and have never seen anything like that. I can't believe that the crew didn't dispatch security to take care of her. Especially if she was calling you names, and insulting you by telling you to go back where you came from. That is totally unacceptable anywhere on any cruise line and she should have been forced to deal with security. She is the one who needed a talking to. Sorry for your experience. Most people aren't like that.

She has not been told the rules of the game, my wife and I are platinum members and have paid tens of thousands to get that. Karen had the opportunity to a book a suite when she purchased the cruise and did not. It's her problem not yours, I feel for her husband.🚢

We are Platinum members and after our next back-to-back cruise we will become Elite. Sorry you had to deal with a rude and ignorant person who obviously is new to Princess. What I like about the Medallion is that I don't have to stand in line with customer service when I can request assistance with the app. Thanks for sharing!

Hehehe…Oh, I love how you protected the guest services associate. That was just awesome! I think it’s nice to have the various perks in place for travel agents and people who have already completed multiple cruises. Travel is expensive, and if people are choosing to invest their travel money in your brand repeatedly, then you definitely want that perk system in place. I’m glad that you enjoyed your cruise. Thank you. And I agree it is one of those simple ways for a company to thank you for choosing them. It doesn’t cost them to much and it actually valuable to the customer. Some programs are better then other so that is interesting to see how brand compare with their perks.

It happens BOTH ways. There was one time I checked into a hotel very late (I held the reservation with a credit card) and there was a man RAISING HELL that the hotel was sold out and he could not get a room and he bragged about his status and how much he gambled there, etc, to no avail. After a good little while, he finally left. Then I checked in, apologized to the clerk, and he got me my room....a 2 bedroom suite with a massive hot tub! I did not ask of this or request this, but apparently it was the only room available. If that Elite member had been nice to me, he could have had one of the bedrooms....it was just me there. Lol! 😅

Yes so true I always try nice first. I have been up graded before and that lady thanked me so much for being so understanding. Another time I was told that I would not be compensated when I was stuck at an airport due to a technicality. I nicely talked to her she said well it not policy but I will make an exception.

We were on RC Jewel of the Seas and in line with maybe 5 others at Customer Service. This ship was small enough that there was no line for diamond members. A diamond member demanded to get to the front of the line yelling at all of the staff. A manager came out and tried to calmly explain there was no diamond line. She eventually shoved herself in front of me when I got to the counter. I laughed at her and said go ahead . I’m on holiday. The rest of us want you to go away. The staff member thanked me and I avoided miss diamond the rest of the trip

I'm sorry you experienced that behavior on your 1st Princess cruise. We are elite as well. We have cruised on Princess 16 times and have NEVER experienced this type of behavior on any of our cruises. I certainly hope this does not deter you from cruising on Princess again. This type of behavior is totally unacceptable!

I do plan on sailing with princess again. It was a great experience but I wasn’t to try a few more lines first. My goal is to try all the major lines that sail out of the US.

If she had just been a nice person, and not made such a stink, they probably would've done even more for her inconvenience. By being nice to the staff behind the desk, I've been upgraded in rooms at hotels, or have received concierge services that I normally wouldn't be entitled to. No, people like that make a trip have a slightly sour taste -- "it was great, except..."

You keep saying that her husband wasn't saying anything to her but you weren't either. You can reply in a normal voice and that is better than standing there and taking it. I stood up to a "Karen" last year on a train and there were 4 men near us and an employee and no one said anything. It time everyone spoke up instead of cowering away from loud people.

What I find disappointing is not that they have different lines, but rather that you have to stand inline to get helped. Like they couldn't answer a phone or conduct it via a teleconference?

I agree- the guest services should have deal with her sooner- once the politely told the line , that there are indeed 2 lines and she continued- they should have told her that if she continued to be loud they would call security None of the guest should have to deal with that kinds of behavior.

We are Elite with Princess for over 10 years, have had a couple times people in the regular line tell us to get in the line but when we show them our black card (the medaillon is just existed recently), they understand and even say sorry to us. Recently on our Christmas cruise on Diamond Princess, my husband had the same experience with a Karen who did not accept that, so he pointed to the sign "Elite and suite guest" and asked the Karen "Do you know how to read?" "Do you understand what is the meaning of Elite member?" Luckily that it was my husband's turn to be served so he just focusing in doing what he needed to do and that it is. When he finished and looked back the Karen had gone!

Since covid Princess has not properly shown that there are two lines for guest services one for Elite and Suites and the other for everyone else. This is really prevalent on their newer bigger ships.

That’s the thing - there’s a sign! I’m also Elite and my wife and I book suites exclusively. I’ve never seen a Guest Services desk that did not have the “Elite and Suite Guests” sign displayed prominently.

You did what you should have. Basicly ignore the one yelling and dont let what others do set your mood or influence your happiness and enjoyment. I never understood how people go on a cruise vacation so angry. Its like youre on a cruise how could you be so mad and angry about small things. I like to tell people, chill relax, dont worry, roll with the punches, dont let the small things ruin you time. Yeah its a long line but youre also on a vacation in the middle of the ocean, usually coming from or going to tropical weather(unless youre on an Alaskan or other type of cruise) why carry that anger with you and let one small thing wreck your trip. Sometimes there are small inconveniences, but if someone is letting it ruin their trip and just setting them off to be angrier and angrier, their priorities aren't where they should be while on vacation. That lady is the perfect example of that. Shes still on a cruise, hundreds of miles away, but yet she is more focused on what everyone else is doing, and more focused on a small inconvenience and letting that set her mood. It really does go to show, some people aren't happy with anything.

Watch your bill. We have been charged for drinks at bars in the past. We do not drink so they get removed. If you get threatened: start asking for security. Things will change really quickly. Keep your hands where everyone can see. Keep yelling for security. Keep your cool and say nothing but "security".

Tender not Tinder. Tender is a small boat that runs between the cruise ship and the dock to take passengers back and forth. It is used when the port is too shallow for the larger cruise ships. Elite members get priority access to the tender boats.

You need to tell her that you are in a medallion cruise members' line........If I hear the word 'elite' I would just think someone thinks they are special and gets priority services.....The cruise line needs to change the name from elite to stop confusion. ....Explain to others it's like business class on an airline where you have a different queue.....Once things are explained properly then people get it.

Hey..... this crap happens everywhere! Why the need to call it out as 'only on Princess'????? I see that you are calling this lady a Karen... I know I should't even ask... but something about the way you described her comments made me think that maybe she wasn't the commonly described 'entitled, white, woman'. I am glad to hear that Security did finally show up. It is too bad that, like on many cruise lines, rule breakers and lesser 'confrontations' are just ignored.

It does happens everywhere. that is why I briefly brought up carnivals reputation. This is just the first time in 9 cruises with 4 different cruise line that I have ever seen this personally. I do see it ALLLL the time at airlines lol.

Absolutely not! Letting her go next would just increase her self entitlement. Shame on guest service staff for allowing her to bully you. I hope you mention this incident in your feedback post cruise.
