My husband and I had a similar situation at one of our vacation homes. The morning after we arrived, we heard yelling, laughing, etc in our back yard. For reference, the house is on 6 acres so we can’t see or hear our neighbors, so we knew it was coming from our yard. In addition, when we come to town, we usually stay for about two months, so our house sitter leaves about two weeks before we arrive to ensure the house is clean and all her belongings are gone. Anyway, we went out back and found a family of 5 swimming in the pool. They had brought food, drinks, pool toys, and the father was using the grill to make their lunch. We asked them what the hell they were doing here, and they said the owners allow them to use the pool whenever they want. We explained we were the owners and after some back and fourth, they admitted they had been coming over for the last two weeks without permission. Turns out they were friends with our house sitter and had been to the house on several occasions for dinner, so they knew the situation with the house sitter and the small window when the house would be vacant. They had also broken the lock to the pool house/guest house and were keeping food, some changes of clothes, and toiletries, in there. Needless to say, we were beyond pissed. We told them to immediately get out, and the father said we needed to “chill out, and they would be gone after lunch.” They refused to leave! I couldn’t believe it! We called the police and when they arrived the parents tried again to say they had permission from the owner, and were allowed to be there. The police obviously told them to leave, and asked us if we wanted them trespassed, which of course we did. Then the father tried to say they lived in the guest house. That is when the youngest kid said “we don’t live there, we live at X.” When the father tried to double down saying he had keys, the awesome kid chimed in with “we don’t have keys, you had to use the big scissors to break the door lock.” The big scissors were gardening shears from the shed. This earned dad a pair of shiny new silver bracelets. So dad was arrested and they were trespassed. Thanks, kid! The best part was about a month later we got a call from the mother (no idea how she got my number) and she had the audacity to ask if her kid could have his birthday party at our house. She promised her husband wouldn’t be there. I had to laugh at that one. Of course I said no. I still can’t believe she had the nerve to ask us that. Unbelievable.

Just curious, with the house sitter, did you call them out on letting the people on the property without your permission to begin with? Get security cameras and replace the locks just in case?
@lauram3115
@lauram3115 2 жыл бұрын
@@violetcwest We actually fired her. In the contract it states explicitly that guests are not permitted unless previously approved in writing. I know this sounds very harsh, but there are reasons, mainly to protect our property. Vacation homes are prime targets for theft and break-ins. Statistically, vacations homes that are only utilized intermittently are burglarized by someone who is affiliated with the owners.

@@violetcwest We have a property management company that maintains our other home. They are wonderful. They maintain the grounds, do daily checks on the home inside and out. When a hurricane blew a bunch of debris in our yard and some minor damage to the roof, we were only charged for the roof repairs. They cleared all the debris and addressed the landscaping. When we arrived a couple months later, we couldn’t tell there had been any damage. Wonderful company. If you get a vacation home, I definitely recommend using a property management company.

What you think you "own" your property? Then you might not have realized the US is becoming a socialist country. You never own land. You buy the buildings on it then rent the land through the government via taxes. Yeah, you can kick somebody off of your rented land.

As a pool owner , I cannot stress enough , how extremely careful you must be , with regards to pool safety and security ! Regarding the case of the engaged couple that everyone was talking down: Sometime people just are like that... We went through the same sh*t when we announced our wedding plans. At that time we were a couple for more than 12 years! Everyone just seemed to mock us about it: colleagues at work, my mom, so called friends... In the end we had our marriage in a very small circle, without our families, just the two of us, best woman/man and their partners. Later that year we had a big wedding, with church and all, where we invited our families and other friends etc. - each invitation had a kind of 'read me first'-manual attached. This basically told everyone invited, that this was OUR wedding, if they want to be happy for us and join the festivities we gladly invite them. However, if they take this as an opportunity to bring their entitled mindsets, unwanted opinions, family struggles and quarrels, and overblown egos to this event, they can stay the hell away! It worked: everyone complaining about this note and starting to debate was removed from the guestlist and we had a great 'official' marriage! Love & Peace

My family gave me crap after telling them that I proposed after a year and and even "tried" to make us go through compatibility/marriage testing before we got married. We've been married 18 years and I'm on my one and only marriage after most of my family has been married 2 or more times. Hell, my uncle who has been married twice (after even being attracted to my own mother) told us we would divorce each other. To HELL with what people say about your relationship because you two are the only ones who decide what you want in life. Story 2: don’t pay any attention to people telling you you’re living your life wrong and getting married too early. You are allowed to make your choices and live your own life the way that makes you happy. Something I’ve been learning over the years.. is so many folks will never hesitate to minimize your life by comparing your experiences to theirs. Because people have limited experiences but large egos THEY know what’s best for YOU because clearly they’ve made it and you have to follow the exact same life plan as them to succeed. It’s not worth even listening to. If they’re mad you’re happy, it’s their problem. Don’t let them make it your problem too.

It's cool that your parents relationship worked out and all but you gotta realize that everyones needs are different when it comes to relationships. She felt lonely in that relationship which means that her needs were not fulfilled. Let's assume they tried to make it work, but she still kept feeling lonely, then she has every reason to want to break up. The moment that she started to think about breaking up could mean she probably just didn't love him as much as she thought she did. It's okay if it didn't work out, it's okay to leave if you think the relationship is tiring, she did pretty good by straight up telling her ex she wanted to break up imo because nowadays people tend to look for the parts that are missing in someone else. Her reaction to the ex's reaction was not the best, but she had every reason to break up. I mean, if you truly love someone you would make it work no matter what without even thinking of breaking up.

Story #2. Well, If you’re 18 years old and getting married, then yea, it’s too young. If y’all really do love each other then wait until after you finish college, have a good job with steady income and your both working towards buying your first house. People change a LOT emotionally and psychologically between the ages of 25-28 years of age. Don’t ever get married bc you’re in love with being in love. If y’all really love each other, then you’ll love each other after college too.

For the pool, just don’t start the argument, just call the cops. They get charges for trespassing, and, using a private asset (the house, as the house doesn’t belong to the government according to the OP, he fully owns it, making it different to trespassing). Also, there may be charges for the fact that she cursed and that Karen said the OP wasn’t raised right and that she will raise her son better. Also, if Karen somehow scratched or broke of intervened with the sun-hair, that means that is destroying private property, which is illegal AND Karen must pay for it, or Karen’s insurance must. Same with pool damage.

Story 2: HAPPENED TO ME TOO!!!! I GOT engaged to my partner in our early 20s. Everyone said we where to young and I was to immature to get married. Granted before I met my partner I was a bit of a hoe. But everyone from work, family, and some friends said don't do it we won't last. To a point that there was a pool on how long the marriage will last with the longest being 8 months. Well over 10 years later we are still together and happy and planning another trip out of the country (think we are at 20 something trips now). Depending who said it I had different response. Family: "You can't get married your oldest siblings isn't even engaged yet." Response: "Not my fault they can't decide on who to stop cheating on." Friends: "Well me and my SO have been dating longer and we haven't even discussed marriage yet." Response: "Well when your dating someone 20 years younger than you maybe they just want to have fun and not be tied down to an old person later in life. (They got married he knocked up someone else and got divorced 3 years in)" Co-worker: "You're to young it'll last 6 months." Response: "Man, I should listen to someone on there 4th marriage." I have more than this.

The narrator speaks like he knows something but we the audience have no information other than "people are telling me I'm getting married too soon/young".... If you don’t have a fence around the pool, get one installed and have a lock on the gate that only you can unlock. First of all, in most places it is the law to have a fence around the pool, secondly, it will help to prevent incidents like the above from happening. Without the fence your insurance is under no obligation to pay for any damages and you might even find yourself in criminal court for negligence causing injury or death.

Story 2: Considering the failure rate of marriages these days a lot of people don't expect much of them any more. God knows I don't. I've seen nearly as many divorces as I have marriages. Frankly "best of luck" is about the most positive thing I can think to say. Especially if I know the people involved are under 25 or only been together a year or two. You're flying on passion at that point as far as I'm concerned and that feeling fades.

They mock you out of their own insecurities... and that goes for family , relatives and other people in general too. You just had to look at their life for a second to see why they are trying to sabotage you as well.

S2 I bet a lot of people told Dolly Parton the same negative things before/ when she got married in 1966! OP should have told the older woman down at the nail salon. "Why are you butting into a private discussion between two friends? You are proof that though some people have lived longer that doesn't mean they are necessarily wiser" There's a nice story about a fast food worker who still wears a plain steel engagement ring she and her husband bought more than a decade ago. She could have bought something fancier but she liked the plain shiny steel band. Her husband seeing her choice got one that fit him. So when an entitled "rich witch" mocked her choice, she looked at her with pity and ignored the loser.

Always going on about venues, themes, brides maids, music, food, etc. Day after day all the details. Business owner is an older curmudgeon kind of guy. Finally has had enough. Turns to her and says. "Calm down about this. It's only your first marriage." She immediately breaks down, leaves for the rest of the day. Don't think he ever apologized.

Last story, I wonder how old the parents were when the older brother was born. I've seen situations where the parents became parents before they really wanted to be. So, first child, "ruined their fun" being free to do whatever as a couple, and they resent the child for that. By the time the second child shows up, they're ready to have a kid and end up favoring second child over first because of their unresolved resentment towards the first child.

Not only do people not have anything good to say about marriage when you tell them you’re getting married, but they’re not happy for you for anything else good that happens to you. My husband and I had a financial opportunity come up which we took advantage of and whenever we would tell people,(not the ones who really loved us, but acquaintances) nobody had anything positive to say. They tend to be jealous instead of happy for you. Personal success or business success are alike in one distinct way, they both rely on trust, hard work, commitment, and deep reliability. Last but not least, live a life for Christ. Choose the right thing over the easy thing and be ready to forgive and ask to be forgiven. That’s the best advice I know how to give.
