Yesterday my boss called me and told me I needed to remove anything in the office from our bulletin board or elsewhere dimensions DEI. I was already annoyed with how quick Trump is moving with these executive orders, but I’m also the only black woman in the office. The other two women are biracial… 1/2 white and half black, and the other is half Thai white girl. The young white girl seems to be a little more left, leaning, but the other one plays hopscotch, depending on who she’s around, but leans heavily right. So glad I wasn’t in the office when she has said crazy things like Kamala Harris was a DEI hire.

Can you teach classes? Online or in-person. People want to learn about tech, but are too confused where to start or turned off by tuition rates. Maybe charge $500-$1000 for a set of classes, conduct cohorts. Each group starts and finishes course at the same time. Some people need to create a website, or want someone to do it for them. Not sure what area of I.T. you are in. Are you in any fb groups? You should be, it is a great way to tell people about your business and/or skillset.

Labeling this as a scare tactic, I believe, downplays what is actually happening on the ground. Letters were sent out stating that they were ending all DEIA contracts and DEIA agency offices AND that if any of the position decriptions changed since Nov 5, 2024 to obscure the position names or descriptions that they should be reported. Further, the letter states that failure to report this within 10 days of the letter will result in "adverse consequences". I can appreciate the optimism, however, I am not sure getting through this is as easy as laying low.

I'm a retired federal employee. It operates a little differently than the private sector. You do not have to go to you supervisor regarding moving to another position (you don't have to tell your supervisor you are looking for another job. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to notify your supervisor when you plan to retire). You can apply for any position you have the skills, knowledge, ability and time in grade (one year) you qualify for.

I have to respectfully disagree with Karen's guest. Several notable corporations have been scrapping their DEI programs. Walmart comes to mind and there are many others. While the government can't force them to scrap these programs and departments, they can certainly give license and tacit permission to those CEOs who would want to get rid of the programs- which is what has happened with him ridding it in the federal government.

My sister has been a federal employee for 30 years, DEI was just language they added to job announcements, there is no agency or department, it was added by human resources. There are still equal opportunity regulations that employer's have to adhere to. Karen, me and my fiance are both disabled veterans that work for the feds but in different agencies. This has sent shock waves through both of our agencies. We both are remote workers as well. No one knows whats next. Not the higher ups or work force. And many of our workforce are disabled in some way. No one is even realizing that there are disabled workers that greatly depended on Dei for their justifications for work accommodations and assistance. But it blows my mind that some of these folks are Trump supportes. 😯 So although my family is gonna suffer due to their stupidity, i get to hear how much suffering they are going through at our meetings. You really haven't done your research on what these programs actually do, and why they matter. Not only did we get major discrimination against, we didn't even have the equal right to vote until just before I was born. Some of the worst discrimination, awful treatment, and bad faith hiring practices happened within a single lifetime. Those of us just in their 60s have seen it all. The people willing to go back to how it worked before where they highly discriminated on race, are still with us, and even in government. So yeah, it isn't ancient history why these 1960s equal rights rules were put in place, in the first place. Look up what these programs actually did vs. what your right-wing political echo-chambers tell you. People need to go to the source instead of learning from political hacks, regardless on what side of the spectrum they are in.
