I want to let you know, i have very much been enjoying your videos. Life these days feels scary and full of conflict, chaos and hate (to me, at least). Your wonderful sense of humor and the simplicity of finding joy in doing a puzzle has inspired me. I just purchased 4 challenging, beautiful puzzles - something I would have never guessed i would have done - and i look forward to slowly doing them - getting lost in the image and the search for a next piece - at the end of my exhausting days teaching. This will be meditative and an escape. Thank you for providing such fun, good-natured and often quite interesting content. ❤

I work at a preschool, and the (chopstick style) Stix puzzles are very similar to what we give our littlest kids. A little simpler though, we just print out a picture on paper and cut it ourselves into ~10 strips and call it a puzzle!

It was my understanding that "jigsaw" puzzles were called that because (originally) you used a jigsaw to create the curved pieces. That would apply to the old push fit puzzles as well, as the pieces may not lock, but they are curved. The straight sticks, double side images, would be (if this logic is correct) table saw puzzles, as the straight sides could easily be created with a table saw. Just my brain trying to make sense of things, I guess... But interesting puzzles nonetheless. 😁👍

I'd feel so guilty about all that plastic packaging. 😐 @ Karen, I hope you'll find a different sponsor. You realise what you're promoting isn't healthy?
@aphetrerryac3603
@aphetrerryac3603 12 күн бұрын
@@barbarama , WOW! -- how snobby and sanctimonious can a person possibly be? -- and without the facts. - First, I totally agree that home cooking is tops, but I do not think Factor meals can be grouped with your average pre-packaged frozen meals -- not even your _Lean Cuisine_ or _Healthy Choice_ meals. - Factor meals were actually recommended for my mother (who is 80 years old and insists on living by herself but needs helps with meals) -- and she is a picky eater... - And as for the main comment regarding _trash -- plastic concerns_ -- I suppose you buy absolutely no food items in plastic containers/wrappings, at all? -- even cans? None of your food purchases create/contribute to filling a landfill somewhere? If you think about it, ordering pre-packaged meals, in the long round, is less trash creation.
@chlorophyllheart
@chlorophyllheart 12 күн бұрын
@@aphetrerryac3603I also think it's too much plastic waste with those prepared meals. The thin plastic on the top usually isn't recyclable. I still buy plastic, but I try to get recyclable plastic at the very least. Fruit and veg can be put into reusable mesh bags instead of the thin plastic ones provided. Even if I buy a plastic packaged whole chicken, that makes multiple meals for me, so it's not as bad as plastic for every single meal. So for someone else that cares about plastic waste, it's too much and unnecessary. If you really have problems making food, obviously solving that would be better, but if that isn't going to happen it isn't the worst thing in the world. Considering we have tonnes of plastic waste just from polyester clothes.
@aphetrerryac3603
@aphetrerryac3603 11 күн бұрын
@@chlorophyllheart, respectfully, yes, it is commendable that you care about plastic waste, but I still think you need to take a step or two down from your pedestal. I think your worry of _planet devastation_ in subscribing to a meal service is negatable. - Just pointing out: have you even done your research on what materials are used in meal delivery services? -- I mean not just for Factor, but other meal services, as well. - Also, have you even considered something else: the elimination of food waste? Do you know how much food is thrown away in America because people forget they have purchased an item or did not get around to using the item before it perished? Delivered meals are precise. - Personally, I think it is in bad taste to _trash_ someone for opting, at this time, to choose a delivery meal service to obtain healthy meals. You do not even know the frequency of Karen's subscription -- it could be one box a month, which would more than likely be less plastic waste contribution than yours.
@chlorophyllheart
@chlorophyllheart 10 күн бұрын
@@aphetrerryac3603 I explained in a civil manner, no trashing involved. I clearly said that if you really need it then fine. It seems you ignored that by still being annoyed at the original comment you replied to. Obviously less plastic waste is better, mostly because there will never be a perfect way to recycle them. I donate every month to a charity that stops food waste. Home composting for food waste is a good idea, if people don't want to then they can drop food waste off at community vege gardens, there is even a website where people can collect your food waste to home compost. Petroleum plastic isn't the only option for these meal delivery services, it's just cheaper. There is a myriad of plastics made from other sources. There are also more recyclable options like aluminium to heat in the oven, but people mostly want low effort which means just microwave.

If you want to flatten out your puzzle. While it is still together, you could VERY lightly mist it with some distilled water and then weight it down using a piece of foam core and some heavy books until it’s completely dried out. Even better if you have some sheets of acetate or something similar to put between the puzzle and the foam core - I’m worried about the surface paper sticking to the surface of the foam core and then tearing the image. But with just a very light mist of distilled water, like one single spray, it should be fine. Stix 🙂🐿️🌈❤️

It's probably best to mist the cardboard side and leave the image side alone
@rosswille4336
@rosswille4336 7 күн бұрын
@@dothedo3667 Yes. The warping is probably due to humidity and that the top is "sealed" by the image. If you can get the puzzle to flatten out, seal the bottom with a clear-coat spray so that the top and bottom sides absorb similarly.

I recently had a puzzle that I did where like half the pieces were very bendy because they were thin cut. IMO I just counter-bend my pieces, but I could see it being possible to spritz some water over the back (flip it over first) and place a board over the whole thing with an even weight to press it down, give it a couple days, and it should flatten back out as it dries. Should work I think!

Very interesting video. I think the wooden stick puzzles, if they were not created as artwork but as more of a challenging puzzle, should be printed on the other side (the white side) so the pieces won't collapse when you're working on it, that way they could cut the pieces smaller, still not locking together, but cut in a way that makes you think a bit more of where they go (maybe some diagonal cuts and some straight cuts, and to keep them in place while you work you could work on a non-slippery surface of some kind.

Stix is an interesting concept for sure. You could posaible flatten out the warped pieces by putting them in a heat press, like a t shirt press for example. Or maybe even an iron thats been heated, tuened off and allowed to cool down a little. Happy BDay btw 🎉
