Young people expect to be visually and acoustically bombarded now by any kind of entertainment. They do not want to (and perhaps can't?) put any effort, focus or concentration into the experience. So they can't relate to this kind of music at all. They think rap is music! Perhaps I have overstated it, but it's definitely the trend and getting increasingly common. Some of the downvotes are as you said, from haters, or course - probably hate themselves as well.

@@TKO67 I do understand the piano enough to have a discussion about it. I was never great but I did play four instruments, including piano. I agree there is a base level of talent necessary to excel at music, including piano. However, that base level is readily available throughout our population. I believe what separates the normal pianists from the elite is not talent, but work ethic, and I find it insulting to those who have put in the effort to achieve this level of performance to suggest that they were simply handed their talent as a gift from God, as opposed to developing it through dedication to their craft. The same goes for athletes. The difference between the elite baseball player and the guy who fizzled out in college is almost never talent. And the "work" isn't necessarily "harder" work, it's smarter work. Knowing how to train physically and mentally to achieve peak performance.

I usually use my sheet music as my guide for when my hands come down at the same time or to know what section is coming next. But once you get confident in a song you can playing it without the sheet music. It’s just a matter of repetition and practice.

I'm a touch typist and when I started to learn the piano my teacher told me I would never be a pianist if I played the piano like a type keyboard. To get around it I only played pieces I love and so with feeling. It worked. :)

@@Patricia_Angeles The overabundance of alcohol in your system affects your ability to discern notes. The piano is properly tuned to within 2 cents of perfect. I didn't feel the need to mention that I have been a singer and multi-instrumentalist longer than you've been alive.

“Studying Music theory” means nothing. It’s just that, studying. Long enough to get the credit, and go to the mall, passing this amazing talent and not even notice! Well…there is ibe more thing it dyed. It gives arrogant, wash’s he’s. Something to write about they just wouldn’t understand. I actually like to hear someone that has a natural gift of music over someone who learned to play (also, requires natural talent to learn to read music and play...Don’t get me wrong). It has just always, seemed to me, someone that plays “by ear” plays with more raw emotion and feeling.
