I couldn't stand the younger sister! The older sister didn't have children. It is not her fault that the little sister has children to take care of. If she didn't want the responsibility of caring for children then maybe she shouldn't have had them. She always probably hated her oldest sister when they were teens. Etc. But then again I can't relate because I'm an only child with no children.

It's really hard on family members seeing their family struggle and suffer with things like addiction, while also managing feelings of "you did this to yourself, don't drag me down too." My husband and his Sister are currently dealing with something similar with their mother. It's really hard to tell what is just manipulation from a person who has no intentions of doing anything to help themselves even when the help is handed to them on a silver platter, and what is a person who is so broken they can't help themselves. Just brutal. Makes it very difficult to set boundaries.

"She's still your sister." Why do people feel that you have to remained chained to people because of an accident of birth? The sister Karina is one gigantic, selfish millstone to be expected to bear, and watching the parents repeatedly choose her over another child and grandchildren would be painful. So many enabling parents favor the addict over the rest of the family. I would have walked out of their life long before it got to this point. I had to do this because of alcoholism, but addictions are all similar.

He is killing my in laws right along with him. They have no room in their lives for our family. Often times hiding what is happening. I don't blame the younger sister at all. Karina admits she wanted attention as a kid and she got more when she was in hospital. She sits in the wheelchair when there's no reason for her to be. An attention seeking adult sibling who takes all the time of the parents would drive me up the wall. Maybe in that situation the mom had to go for the appointment so her being upset about that wouldn't be warranted, but if it's as often as younger sister implied then I would get the frustration. The family is caring for the adult and missing milestones of their grandkids. A shame so I hope things change and she gets out the damn chair (not finished the ep yet)

Exactly. Was thinking the same. I can understand her sisters frustration. Karina is a spoiled selfish brat.. knows it.. and gloats at her little sister. You can see the satisfaction Karina gets.. it’s all over her face. She was so used to being spoiled..(or wanted to be)..and wanted all the attention. Then she got healthy. When those grand babies came along at first.. her parents were probably overjoyed. She had to find SOME way of being selfish and taking even that away from her little sister.. so she moved back in with her parents.. got surgeries she knew was a waste just for attention.. (that her parents PAID for).. then came the wheelchair, etc.. UUGH.. Karina has been blessed with a GOOD LIFE.. she’s just selfish and manipulative. She’s also probably resentful of her little sister for having a life and children. She’s messed up.. and there’s no reason for her to be. Sometimes people are just spiteful and selfish.. for no reason. It’s just their toxic nature. People on here said she also had an affair with another woman’s husband as well.. (Lupé’s?) .. that doesn’t surprise me.. seeing how she’s always been. Take, take take…

How many times has she had to tell her kids: sorry grandma and grandpa can't come to (pick activity) because Aunt Karina....(Pick excuse). 5. How many times has Karina tried and failed, (how much has the sister already helped), and has Karina changed. The skepticism from the sister AND the parents says no. How much more needs to be sacrificed to Karina before the sister is allowed to be fed up. Karina is a sympathy vampire. Even in her WATN we (the audience) see the cycle starting to repeat. @@snowblo1 no hostility was meant and I apologize if it sounded like that. I simply mean that we don't know how much has been sacrificed already by the sister and her kids. Also, there is a moment when Karina won the argument where we could see the triumph in Karina, knowing she got her way. Plus the sister already helped pay for a previous weight loss surgery that failed, why should she have any hope this time will be different. And again in the WATN episode we see the cycle of excuses repeat. Ask yourself how many times would you accept the situation with no push back if you saw there was no real change happening. As a person that's dealt with addiction, you should know recovery is not a perfect straight line. For some people it is, for most it comes in ebbs and flows of sometimes 3 steps forward, 4 back, then 2 forward again. Cannot stand that she won’t get her ass up out of her wheelchair! The mental block is infuriating. If she just walked to the scale, the car, she’d drop another 10lbs a month. It’s a deep-rooted desire to keep her parents’ attention that she lost when she was discharged from the hospital as a kid.

With Karina talking about needing support from family, it reminds me of my own VSG experience. My dad literally prayed over whether or not i should have the surgery (I'd already decided, so who knows why he did that). Family went with me to the surgical ward and visited for all of two hours in the two days i was there. The surgeon asked me to stay nearby, and my dad tried to insist on driving me straight home after, 2 hours away, so i had to find a hotel nearby and pay for it for a week out of my pocket. My sister stayed with me, thank goodness. When they drove me back to my place, my dad stopped at a mcdonalds drive thru and insisted on him and my sister eating fast food in the car next to me whilst i was still on a liquid diet. Since then, its been me myself and I. I've stalled recently, so i need to work that out, but that is up to me. I lost 120lbs, so I can keep going. Help is good, and I'm glad for the help I have had, mainly from my siblings, but its up to me

I definitely disagree with Sean's take on the sister's anger and supposed pettiness. For having had 2 sisters who are using my parents to their benefit all the time, even without kids or responsibilities, just because they can't "adult", it gets so frustrating. They've missed crucial events in my life and my children's lives because my sisters always "need" them. And just like Karina, they couldn't care less what that did to me. It's not mature or Christian to be bitter like this, but trust me, it's hard.

It seems like she became so accustomed to being the center of attention due to her being sick when she was younger, she then saw losing that level of attention as being victimization. I know why they don't invite her to dinner. I went out to eat w a friend who eats like that, and it was 2 to 3 hours of her filling plates and shoving the food in so fast that grease was dripping off her chin the whole time. I'm not queasy, but I started to get nauseated. I finished after 30 min and then sat there while she urged me to "get seconds, get seconds"... She got mad that I didn't eat seconds. I was so done and I never went out to eat with her again. I never said why. She also broke a lot of stuff in my house. She aways got money from people, refused to work, claiming that God had told her she wasn't supposed to work 😂😂.

I can totally understand her sister’s frustration. She’s determined to infantilize herself so her parents will do everything for her. Gains back weight every time she loses it, refuses to walk, etc.

There was actually an Australian hard rock band called Chocolate Starfish back in the 1990s... After they broke up "coincidentally" Limp Bizkit just happened to use the term in the title of an album....

Exactly right. Grow up and get over yourself already. Self pity isn't my thing. Not at all.

i'm on the sister's side 1000%. sean's perspective - wanting the family to be supportive of karina- only works when everyone is good-hearted. karina is a taker. even at the end, it's all about her, "i finally can get out of this HOUSE!" rather than 'tg my family won't be so burdened, i'm so sorry and grateful.' rotten hearts need to shape up or ship out. no enabling.

This sister relationship breaks my heart in so many ways, and I hope there's healing on both sides. Like I've been the medically needy child, but I've also been in a position where i was the only nonaddict in the house. Both are hard places to be, and both are hard to deal with from the outside. That being said, I now have a fantastic relationship with my sister that I prize above do much else. I honestly hope those two can get closer to this. They both deserve it.

They should just call this show, 'my big, fat excuse'. PLENTY of us have gone through struggles and tough times without using it as an excuse for addictions/failings.

There has to be a reason her sister acts that way towards her, much deeper than we know about. I bet Karina is a real piece of work, just by going by the fact that she ended up with Gilbert and his nasty shorts 😂

Her little self satisfied smirk is infuriating to see when her sister and the people around her are struggling. She needs to learn how to not be codependent on her parents affection and attention. It's destructive to herself and others. Her refusal to come to terms with her upbringing when talking to the therapist really got under my skin. We all have things we need to work on, but if you can't admit that you have faults, then you can't get better.
