I remember when I was in school our teachers tried to force this topic down our throats that he was such a peaceful saint. My intuition told me otherwise. To this day people who quote Ghandi or call him their role model give me a huge ICK. The fact that he didn’t fight against Apartheid, but wanted to side with the British elite so that they could oppress black South Africans together due to their supposed “inferiority” is nothing but vile. And all the incidents with his wife and nieces are beyond disgusting. He’s left a poisonous legacy of misogyny in India.

@@anka6356 Race in a modern scientific context refers to a socially constructed category that groups people based on shared physical traits, such as skin color, hair type, and facial features, which are often associated with geographic ancestry. While bone structure, like other physical traits, can vary slightly among populations, it is not the defining characteristic of race. Genetic studies show that human genetic variation is continuous and does not support distinct biological races. That is what I am contemplating right now. A man who hurt so many, yet may have saved many others (as a side effect of his grift it turns out) So I guess the question quantitatively boils down to how many people do you have to help to make right 1 harm you have done? I guess the answer is innumerable because it can't be done. But then, what if we hypothetically say that Lincoln spanked his son too much, but also ended slavery? We would definitely say Lincoln was still good. So where is the line?

He was most assuredly an operative of the British gov both in SA and in India. In SA the Indians most often side with whites in political and economic matters. So I think it was a way to usurp public opposition and actually get more power for Indians politically by the backroom players. In India, he was used to give the British an out while installing a puppet gov. They didn't want to be involved in the looming Muslim/Hindu conflict and were stretched too thin. His statements about the caste system were likewise merely statements. Slavery and violence against women are both still very much entrenched in Indian society.

What human is without sin? Also , and more importantly, I would say that the very definitions of what constitute right or wrong can be controversial and vary, according to perceptions. Context is very important. And moral and ethical issues can be complex, espescially when you focus on individuals who have whole lives, yet critique narrows its focus to particular slices of life and spans of time. Incidences far apart can and will be related and add to context that outside observers may not consider. When thimking about Ghandi in this way it is more difficult to condemn his relationship with his wife. Domestic responsibilities and attitudes vary according to culture.

Yes. This is also, what I wish sooo much for India. I lived in India for about 5 years with Mother Teresas orphans and in fact, they made out of me a kind of an indian mother. When I came back to Germany, I could not fit in again but remained in love and care for this about 230 orphans near Kolkata. Very hard work. Sins then, I pray so much for India, that people can become less religious and much more practical thinking and acting, so that life will be more peacefull for all Indians. This wish for India does not mean, that I would think, Europe would be in better conditions. It's just my wish for India, without comparing with any other country on earth. Warm regards from Germany.

I grew up in a family deeply influenced by the New Age. Hinduism is very attractive on the surface; but has a very deep dark inside. There is evidence that Hinduism and Buddhism influenced early Christianity. What John was doing at the river was not a Jewish ritual; but rather a Hindu ritual. People do not like to talk about that; but Hinduism and Buddhism were in the Roman Empire about 100 years before Jesus. People say Jesus went to India. Jesus might have; but he did not have to because India had arrived with Greeks returning from India. Paul, Jesus, and John were not acting as good Jewish men; but rather as Hindu Gurus. Jesus and John could not be leaders with the Jewish religious community because they were unmarried. Who is this John? Unmarried... Not following Judaism, and doing river rituals that look a lot like Hinduism.

Every critics about Mother Teresa are correct. I tell you this as a devote catholic pedagoge. I lived and worked with Mother Teresas orphan children sins 1980. I was with the children for about 5 years right in Kolkata and south at a village for this orphans. The place was run by extrem violent priests and they even did not felt ashame, to beat up the children in front of me. Rest of my Story with Mother Teresa you can find in orher comments from me. Mother Teresa lost her faith in JESUS and got mixed up to much with with all sorts of religions. But the actuall guilty ones was her catholic spirituall guides. They did not understood, what happen to her, when she told them very early, that she could not feel the LOVE of JESUS for her anymore. They did not guided her propperly. That is why, she remained for sooo many years in spirituall darkness, as she confessed her self. The real guilty ones was the men behind her. Sad Story! But don't stopp, to try to understand JESUS. HE is still with us, even if Mother Teresa could not feel HIS love for her anymore for more then 30 years of even longer.
