I liked everything that Karishma said except for the fact that she pointed out "Gujarati" families as orthodox in general. I am a Gujju woman, born and raised in an upper middle class joint family, having an elder sister as my only sibling, with extremely loving, supportive and proud parents as well as grandparents. Gujaratis are very warm and generous. Conservative mindset is present in a section of individuals belonging to different (in fact all) castes. It's unfortunate that Karishma faced sexism and had to witness patriarchy but I hope she embraces and feels proud of the Gujarati culture which is very vibrant, giving and amazing in more ways than one!

Same thing happened with me, my father when he came to know that a girl is born, he and his family even refused to pay the hosbital billa and didnt even accepted me and my mom for 6 months.
