I disagree with you ; Chris and Ed most definitely have spectacular voices. Instantly recognizable, evoqative, playfull, soulful. What you could say, is that they don't have spectacular technique or range. I'll give you that. But there are plenty of people with great technique, that people don't want to listen to.

I love the story behind fix you also, it's so sad and so beautiful. Plus the song is timeless!! Talking about drummers singing, have a look at Skillet, their female lead vocalist is also their drummer. Brilliant. Would actually love a reaction video to one of their songs 😜

I love, love, love Coldplay, but Ed Sheeran blows Chris Martin out of the water on his own song. I have to disagree with your comment about Ed Sheeran not having that great of a voice. He has an amazing voice. And as much as I love, love, love Coldplay, Chris Martin is the one who doesn't have a great voice....just a very distinctive voice. He does write amazing songs, though.
