if you are talking about the "karjalankannas," it is not on the map because I am only using the modern Karelian states for reference, that region is now apart of the Leningrad oblast, so it is excluded, even though it is an important part of Karelian history.

So you have only included areas which are officially administratively called nowaday as Karelia. And if we want include whole historical Karelia there is also Tvers Karelia which is seperated area.

I personally don't have much of an opinion on total independence from Russia (or unification with Finland), but I think that at the very least some more autonomy would be nice so that Karelia isn't Russified. I'm not actually from Karelia, I'm from Finland and I currently live in the states, but I believe the Karelian people would probably have a similar opinion as I do. Although, if Karelia did gain independence somehow, I would be fine, if not, happy with that.

According to all maps I have found, and Wikipedia, the Isthmus is now a part of the Leningrad Oblast. Although, a signifigant portion of the population is still Karelian as you have said (which I did not know previously), so I think I do now agree that I should have included the Isthmus.
